They each have another drink, move towards each other to dance. Jeff never makes it. He goes out cold. Next day at the pool, Peggy is frantically making phone calls: it is noon and Jeff has been missing all night. A page brings an anonymous message telling here where Jeff is. Peggy rushes off. A very concerned Billy sees her Lc and goes with her. Peggy and Billy speed along the desert highway searching for the landmark written on the note. They see it, skid to a stop. Look down the embankment and see Jeffjs___^__ squashed car. Sliding and tripping, they scramble down the hill to it. See Jeff unconscious or dead inside. Billy burns his hand on the hot door handle; forces the door open. Pulling and tugging, Billy gets the uncon- scious Jeff out. Jeff revives, needs water. Billy and Peggy are aghast. They left so fast they didn't think to bring any. At a gas station on the desert Jeff finishes soaking his head in the ice water fountain as Peggy rejoins him from the phone booth. No luck. No answer to the calls. Carol has disappeared.
