On one unseasonably warm night in March, however, nearly a dozen hoofers took over various corners of the Tropicana show room's stage to chat with guests, pose for pictures and, yes, dance. Several Folies staffers watched a fine captain as she auditioned a stunningly tall redhead in a Danskin bikini, while a half-dozen sprightly members of the corps pranced around the footlights in their sweats. At stage right, featured dancers Stephanie Shaw and Chris Nicholson?╟÷who had just completed three steamy and strenuous duets together-^rehearsed their tango in muscle-revealing workout clothes. Other singers and dancers found backstage niches of their own in which to stretch and meditate. Not everyone used this calm between the storms to hone their craft, however.
