Hawkins, of the Auburn Bar, reference is made to a case pending in the U. S. District Court for the District of Nevada entitled, "TJ. S. vs. Alpine Land and Reservoir Company”, from which it appears that the Government claims that ^United States by cession to it from Mexico, in 184&, of the territory embracing the basin of the Carson River, became the owner of all rtiagrhitess ”t.o the waters in the stream and its tribu­sion of the Federal Judge was on this point, and if there has been no decision I would like you to send me a copy of your brief, if you have made one.
