Page 27 and I believe end I?╟╓ll make this very short then, that one of the reasons the functioning of the News Bureau these past several ye?║trs has not been to the point of satisfaction ?? has not been satis- factory to a good many members of this committee, has been because they in turn have had a tremendous increase in their work load to such a degree working with practically the same amount of money, that the creative and inspired work which they should be called upon to do be- yond the mundane. (Laughing, Lee explained that "Mundane?╟Ñ is the day before Tuesday.} They are unable to get beyond that which they must do by our own re- quirements and as a result their over-all effort has suffered. I could pyt it this way$ they?╟╓re so busy washing the pots and pans in the 'pj^kitchen that they can?╟╓t get out and make a good'showing and a living. DIEDERICH: Well, I thfnk you*re probably right; I think that maybe they become burdened with the routine jobs to the point where Ujjthey cannot show any inspirational activities, I don?╟╓t know whether ^-^the answer is to increase personnel, I kind of doubt it. It just seems to me that you should spell out the scope of the operation of /?·$<fthe News Bureau ?╟÷ what it is doing ?╟÷ what it is required to do now, and what it should be doing, because I think that many many times the News Bureau is called upon to do work that is strictly local in nature?╟÷ when it should be doing work to publicize this town outside of Las ?Σ≤Vegas. You?╟╓re going to run into the same thing with conventions where the proximity to the News Bureau means that they will be doing a lot of* work which may fall into the realm of commercial work or work that would not be done in another city where that same convention met there. jJJ Photographers are available so they use them End of Roll No. 6 it?╟╓s that simple. AL FREEMAN: It's the only part of the Chamber of Commerce that?╟╓s getting the job done, to be honest with you, I think the inner work- ings of the News Bureau is up to the people themselves; if we disagree about a couple pixs being made locally, or if we have a beef with some- body in it, personally, that?╟╓s up to us to work out, I don?╟╓t think that?╟╓s up to the Committee here unless the Committee here wants to spend 24 hours a day working on it like these fellows do. I think the money that they have is adequate, If not, they?╟╓ll tell us for next yiar. As far as the function it's essentially a news and photographic function with the emphasis on the photographic function; news function is up to us as press agents; we're supposed to use them as photographic service to get the pictures and we?╟╓re supposed to send the pixs,"actually, is you?╟╓re going to boil it down to the wires ourselves or to have it transmitted on the wires. In other cases we leave it up to them to do the work for us. That brings a lot of extra administrative work on Deitch and used to, on P4pper, The main object of the News Bureau is still primarily a photographic service, creatively or butcher shop work?╟÷ that?╟╓s up to them. I don?╟╓t think that we?╟╓re qualified to say because none of us are actually photographers. I still don?╟╓t think there?╟╓s any criticism due the News Bureau, if anything, they don't have enough money. If we get more money, we can have more money in the News Bureau for more people. The News Bureau is still the only one in this town that's doing the job. HARVEY DIEDERICH: I won?╟╓t aggUe that, Al. I?╟╓m saying, perhaps they
