Memorandum re la tiv e to location of proposed 2,500,000-gallon reservoir at Las Tegas, as covered by 1928 Budget Item Ho.68 I t is proposed to locate this reservoir at the lower end o f the 24* wood stave pipe in stalled in 1926, immediately east of the new settlin g basin a distance o f about 1900 feet - bottom of reservoir being some two or three feet below present ground lin e, which is favorable to economical construction. of head duo to elevation as well as fric tio n in approximately 1900 feet of pipe. Elevation o f water in reservoir w ill be the same as that in the settlin g basin near the w ell. ing basin, i t would be necessary to place same in the ground and in this way we would incur loss o f present head, which is absolutely essential to proper operation of fa c ilit ie s at the shops; also, it would be necessary to take up and re lay existing £4" wood stave pipe at lower elevation, the cost of which would be considerable and also reservoir near the settlin g basin would not give additional storage available fo r the pipe line unless we sacrificed head. water from Springs B, C and D, as shown on Bwg. 31865, dated December IE, 1927, into the reservoir or pipe lin e , fhe elevation of these springs is such that it w ill be necessary to in s t a ll a pump to elevate water to settlin g basin or lay a pipe lin e to a connection with the present 24" pipe or to proposed reservoir with a check valve in same on basis that th is supply w ill be available whenever water in the reservoir becomes low enough to allow water to flow in through check valve. Water from these springs now flows down the creek through the ranch and is being used b e n e fic ia lly . able fo r use at Las Tegas the water from Springs B, C and B, then one o f the above methods can be considered; however, in my opinion, believe it would be desirable to drive additional well in lo oat ion recommended by Dr, Boyle and permit water from the springs to flow down Las Tegas Creek fo r use on the ranch. In Dr. Boylets opinion, when well is driven at location selected by him, artesian flow w ill be secured which can be discharged by gravity into the settlin g basin. Locating reservoir at th is point w ill avoid loss I f new reservoir were to be located near the s e ttil t the present time we do not contemplate piping I f , at a la te r date, I t is decided to make avail B.
