PRIMA ron erickson 1/8 The great sounds of Louis Prima, Gia Maione, Sam Butera and The Witnesses will soon be heard in the Celebrity Theatre of the Sands Hotel. Prima and his gang, one of the finest attractions in all of the entertainment world, open March 2 at the Sands after a long stay at the Sahara Hotel. The official signing will take place Monday with Frank Sinatra and a host of Sands executives in attendance. Prima, who has many friends at the Sands, said he was making the change because he feels he will enjoy working at the hotel. The contract, an extensive one, guarantees the familiar Louis Prima name will continue to appear on a Strip marquee many weeks each year. Additional details will be announced later. In every sense of the word, Louis Prima means entertainment. Since he was seven years old, his prime interest has been music. He began his musical education as a violinist and was considered a bright prospect as a concert player until he decided to give a try at playing trumpet. It quickly became his first love and from there the story begins. Prima is one of the few musicians who have been able to make the transition from one generation to another. He has remained a favorite for 25 years and has consistantly updated his material with splashes of popular tunes as well as relying on great arrangements of songs that have been with him for years.
