ALFRED SHEINWOLD February 16, 1966 Mr. A1 Freeman Sands Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada Dear Al: I'm sorry to rush you, but we must get a fast decision on the bridge and backgammon tournaments. The man who runsthe bridge tournament at the Riviera (Harvey Cohen) has heard of my plans, and if I don't move at once somebody else may beat me <bo the punch. As you know, for the past three years two other hotels have been trying to get me to run a bridge tournament for them, and I have held off because I want to work with you. Still, if the Sands management would rather not go ahead, I'll have to accept the offer of one of the other hotels. / ' ' ; ?ç Bn tTo avoid conflict with major bridge tournaments, I suggest he following times: late June through early July? late September; e in October; early November. All of the same times are possible for the backgammon tournament, with the addition of January and February, if you don't mind a conflict with the bridge tournament at the Riviera. I think the best way to use the window dressing of foreigh experts is to stage an invitational tournament for two or three days immediately preceding our planned public tournament. The stars could then also'compete in the public tournament. I will be available for a trip to Fresno on Monday, February 21 or on Wednesday the 23rd. I leave on the 24th for the East, mostly for the national bridge tournament in Louisville. This would be an ideal time for me to start a promotion campaign for bridge and backgammon. This kind of opportunity will notibe available again until August, the time of the next national tournament*. For all of these reasons, I urge you to get fast approval for at least the bridge tournament, together with a decision on a date. If we pick an October date, we can put on a fine campaign and get some wonderful people and favorable publicity for the Sands. Warm personal regards, as always. Sincerely, Alfred Sheinwold 544 Loring Avenue Los Angeles, California 90024 GRanite 4-0679
