yiiiiijiiiiiiiii]) 3 Dr. Cox said he thought the airlines would gross approximately $60,000 to $100,000 on ten trips if they were full on each trip so he figured about $10,000 a month would be necessary for advertising purposes, although a much larger figure would probably be necessary in the beginning, probably as much as 25% the first few months. Mr* Swain said he knew his hotel would not be interested in putting money in a community budget for Dallas and Houston but that they would run all their own ads 'they could to tell people of this service. He was sure the airlines would not run the flight unless they felt they were going to make money. Mr. Loveland assured Dr. Cox that their experience i*n Dallas had been excellent. Mr. Donohue wanted to know if the five hotels present would charter their airlines for the first few flights and it was generally agreed that there was no chance of that. Then Mr. Albright suggested that the first thing should be a survey made in Dallas to see how much interest could be generated, to see what would be required in the way of promotional activity, and Dr. Cox agreed that this would be done. He had been under the impression that such a survey had already been made. Mark Swain said he thought a good thing would be to have a press junket first of local businessmen, a good one shot kick-off and then he thought the advertising would be included in the regular budget of each hotel. Mr. Donohue wanted to know if they could have a letter from each hotel stating approximately what traffic they were getting out of Dal las right now in comparison with what they are getting from San Francisco and Los Angeles. Mr. Cannon said for the first five months of this year, about 3% came from Dallas, 48% from Southern California and 9% from northern California but that wasn't a fair comparison as many people may have planned to come from Dallas but didn't because plane service was so poor in contrast to the service from Los Angeles and San Francisco. Mr. Donohue said that Senator Cannon was very interested in this project and he would like to be able to go back to Washing- ton and give him something concrete. He suggested a group of Las Vegans and United States Overseas Airlines should go to Dallas jointly and make a survey to see what could be done to^ get this project launched. Mr. Cannon said any good advertising agency in Dallas would make that survey for United States Overseas Airlines without any cost to them and then they would have the answer to their questions. In closing Mr. Albright felt the following could be considered as the groups feeling in the matter under discussions It was agreed by all that Las Vegas wanted the direct fIight from Dallas and everyone agreed that, in their opinion, the flights -3-
