Page 2 WHEEL OF ROTARY DECEMBER 1, 1949 TODAY'S PROGRAM Prof. Alden J. Plumley, professor of Economics and Business Administra-tion of the University of Nevada, is our program speaker for today, accord-ing to Les Edwards, program chairman for this quarter Pro. Plumley is being brought here by Program Chairman Ed. Converse, to whom the thanks of Las Vegas Rotary Club are due for the many favors rendered. * * * * * * * * * * * LAST MEEK Chaplain William F. Taylor, of Las Vegas Army Air Field, was introduced last week as speaker of the day at the joint Thanksgiving meeting of Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs by Rotary Program Chairman Les Edwards...Chaplain Taylor made a very eloquent appeal for the spirit of thanksgiving, saying, among many other striking things: "I am a Tennessee Hillbilly who will speak on Thanksgiving.*** I think we can afford to stop and consider this Thanksgiving season.*** I make no apologies for bringing gratitude to God into this Thanksgiving." * * * * * * * * * * * ' - ABOUT BONANZA. Ed Converse, head of Bonanza Air Lines, and a very active member of Las Vegas Rotary Club, was the featured speaker at Tuesday's meeting of Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.... Ed gave a very comprehensive account of the establishment and growth of Bonanza Air Lines, telling the Las Vegas bus nessmen of the many advantages to Vegas, Reno and Phoenix the extensi . ^ of air line service can bring. Las Vegas businessmen had not before had a complete understanding of the scope of operations of Bo-nanza Air Lines and of the import-ance its successful development is to the cities which it will serve, especially to Las Vegas, its head-quarters city in which will be lo-cated the homes of seventy or more permanent employees. * * * * * * * * * * * * LETTER FROM FRANK This Editor recently had a very pleasant letter from our form-er Rotary President, Frank Case.... He says, among other things of in-terest: "Win and I flew in here today, so are just starting a week's tour of Puerto Rico and St. Thomas. It is easy to see why the place soaks up our tax money. The more we clean it up the more the popula-tion increases so the same old circle starts again.... There is a great charm to these Spanish places tho, despite the ever present pov-erty.... when we return to Florida we expect to do more fishing and loafing and to return home for Thanksgiving." WHEEL OP ROTARY Page 3 VISITING ROTARIANS Our crop of visiting Rotarians was rather sparse last week, there being only-two (because of the meeting Wednesday in-stead of Thursday and the holiday). They were: W. B.. RICE, FOREST SERVICE, Ogden, Utah C. HALTER BURDICK, ELECTRIC SERVICE, Santa Barbara, Calif. Thanks for visiting us, fellows. We hope you will come again soon. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * JEAN FAYLE ILL Mrs. Jean Fayle, mother of our Presi-dent Leonard Fayle, was taken ill yester-day but, according to her physician, is not in a critical condition....Las Vegas Rotary Club is unanimous in hoping for her speedy recovery. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * FROM VICTORIA. B.C. We have a nice card from LeRoi Sandall, thanking us for taking his pic-ture when he visited us last month. San Diego Rotary had a nice earthquake put on for him during luncheon when he wa.s there, he reports. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * EDITORS MEETING Reporter Allye reports that Wheel Editor "Pop" Squires will attend the District Rotary Publication Editors Assembly of the 160th District in Los Angeles next Wednesday. Allye very kindly advises us not to use that "wrong address" excuse for anything again. < 3 . ^ ROTARY, MY ROTARY Thy praises high I.love to sing Rotary, my Rotary, My homage now to thee I bring, Rotary, my Rotary, With friendship, loyalty and cheer, I ' l l serve my brothers far and near, And hold thy precepts ever dear. Rotary, my Rotary. Still louder now my song I ' l l swell. Rotary, my Rotary, And make it ring o'er hill and dell, Rotary, my Rotary. May truth and honor be my goal. Exalt my life, make sweet my soul While thousands sing from pole to pole, Rotary, my Rotary. HOME ON TEE RANGE Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam. Where the deer and the antelope play; Where seldom is heard a discouraging word, And the skies aye not cloudy all day. REFRAIN Home, home on the range, * Where the deer and the antelope play; Where seldom is heard a discouraging word, And the skies are not cloudy all day. How often at night where the heavens are bright With the lights froR the glittering stars, Have I stood there amazed and asked as I gazed If their glory exceeds that of ours. — ^REFRAIN Adcock,OrenKing"O.K"'23CM FRATERNAL ORGANIZATIONS ' R-I7CB-2C7 M EN*'s *FURXISH!NGS* ^ R E T A I L H-3960 E L E C T R ^ " L I M T & POWER R-94i B-4I7S BHaArRt lDe tWt , ABRyEr,o n R EE dTwAiInL " B u d " '45 R-2344 B-44 OBeFvFiIllCeE. ^J oEhQnU IMP ME" JNoTh,n n yR"E T'4A!
