11/ In addition to motion pictures, Skelton starred on CBS radio from 1949 to 1953, and entered television in 1950 on the NBC network. He moved over to CBS-TV in 1953. Among the many television honors accorded Red through the years have been Emmy buhh??h nominations for "The Red Skelton Show" itself, for befit comedy writing for the Show and for best actor in a dramatic role in Playhouse. 90*s "The Big Slide". Through the years, there has rarely been a poll of newspaper editors in which the Skelton program hasn't been selected as one of the top comedy shows in television. In 1945 Skelton married Georgia Davis, a rising young singer and actress. She has never for a moment regretted abandoning her promising career for marriage, she says, since she would never have achieved as much happiness and success in the profession as have been hers as a wife and mother. Georgia and Red are inseparable, Skelton rarely going anywhere - even on one?╜-night stands - without her. Red has a tremendous respect for her judgement and looks for her observations on all of his new material. "One of the greatest things she did for me", he says, "was to interest me in painting. Notonly has it given me my greatest relaxation, but it has also helped develop my pantomimes. I paint without props, thus having to depend on the images in my mind. By the same tokep, I can envisage more easily the imaginary props I use in the pantomimes". The Skeltons have a daughter, Valentina, 17. A son, Richard Skelton, died Hay 10 1958 after a prolonged battle with leukemia, at the age of 9. The Skeltons alternate between their hill-top home in Bel-Air and their beautiful house on the grounds of the Tamarisk Country Club near Palm Springs. In addition to painting, Skelton is an inveterate photographer and has a fortune invested in cameras. He carries a miniature camera in his pocket at all times.
