But this, year's produc-, lion, the company's 25th anniversary edition, is particularly suitable for the Christmas-New Year's season since Donn Ard?n who staged the show chose to make It a real anniversary spectacular by re-creating every American holiday in the book, including St. Valentine's Day, April Fool's, Easter, the Fourth of July, Halloween and Thanksgiving. He even included some gorgeous foreign fiestas like a Roman Carnival and a Holiday in. Bio.. But the climax, which c o u 1 d n 't have been better timed, is a glorious Christmas pag- *???>nt that jis breath-takingly beautiful. Tommy Allen and Juani- * ?╟≤ ta P e r c e 11 y, an exciting husband-and-wife skating * duo are back with their hair-raising acrobades and the ethereal grace of ice j ballerina Alice Quessy is j again a highlight of the 18 show. The Cook Family,' consisting of a mother, father and three youngsters are delightful and Marei Langenbein is completely beguiling as the Golden Goddess of a baroque Roman pageant. Y~k Excellent, contributions are made as well by Alfredo Mendoza and John Ladue who div^rtingly play an exuberant hound dog; by Paul Andre and Johnny Leech whose 6omic impersonations range from Antony and Cleopatra to Colonel Sanders his light of love. However, the humans'" have strong comedic competition from some marvelous animals who nearly steal the show. Werner and Denise Muller/.sndt" their trio of impudent chimpanzees (who made their bow in last year's, show) play Mexican vacqueroa this year. But they still play hockey, skate, skip rope, jump barricades and perform hilarious gymnastic feats which had the children squealing with joy. "Kossmayer's Mules" is one of the outstanding comedy acts of the show. Real. animals cavort in a circus ring set up on the ice, with nary a skate in sight. "Holiday on Ice" will continue at the Oakland Coliseum -through. Sunday, ., January 4. This year more \Jthan ever, it has ?√ß% feeling :of elegance, precision and pageantry that is enthralling.
