According to the state engi­neers’ report, a point is rapidly being reached where the annual take-off is matching the recharge and the day is not far distant, according to the engineer, when the reservoir of underground water will start being drained. The engineer said that Las Ve gas has about reached its maxi­mum expansion- capacity, as far as the underground water supply is concerned. The engineer said that the on­ly method -which could protect the water supply would be in curtailment of well-drilling per­mits and this would be forth­coming in the near future unless more water sources were foupd. The state engineer suggested that a water district be formed in this area which would have the power -to tap new sources of water and bring the fluid to' Las Vegas for industrial expansion and other development. This should .be done immediately, the letter said. It was suggested by Clark that a meeting be held among repre­sentatives of the city, county, chamber of commerce and other interested parties, and the con­ference was set for June 3
