Why It Is important to you-to your school children to Nevada's senior citizens and to Nevada's FUTURE... that you be PENNY-WISE?╟÷NOT POUND FOOLISH ON JUNE 11 A PENNY TAX PACKAGE WILL PAY BACK DOLLAR DIVIDENDS The proposed "Penny-More" Sales Tax Package on which you will vote on June 11 carries this one vital advantage to us here in Clark County?╟÷^ it will bring back multi-million dollar reimburse- ments to Clark County and its cities. Here's proof of what would come back to us from the state tax ... $3,000,000 to Clark County Schools for the biennium! 1,616,000 in Cigarette Tax Revenue to be re- turned to Clark County and its Cities! 950.000 to Nevada Southern for a Social Sci- ence Building! 700.000 to be Retained by Clark County from State Property Taxes! 500.000 to Clark County in matching Federal funds for Care for the Aged (Kerr- Mills Act). And Clark County would save another $450,000 currently paid in Care for the Aged, as the State would assume payment. CLARK COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL GET BIG SHARE OF REVENUE! The Sales Tax Amendment will give Clark County SCHOOLS approximately $1,300,000 the first year, and approximately THREE MILLION DOL- LARS for the biennium. The added revenue would also enable the District to sell the remaining $16 million of the $21 million bond issue for IMME- DIATE CONSTRUCTION of urgently needed SCHOOLS. Presently short school housing for 6.000 pupils, the District will gain more than 20.000 additional students during the next 2 years. According to leading local school authori- ties: "Should the sales tax measure fail to pass, the necessary amounts of instructional resources, teaching tools, quality teachers and classrooms will be adversely affected?╟÷reducing the chances of Clark County's children receiving a good edu- cation at a time when quality should be signifi- cantly increased. For the 1964-65 school year, present educational services and standards could not be maintained, and either teachers' salaries would have to be reduced or the teacher-pupil load drastically increased." How will the additional funds be spent? For instructional tools, preventive maintenance of buildings and equipment, to implement plans for equal educational opportunity for students, to provide for a stepped-up aggressive teacher re- cruitment program to attract the necessary 600 additional teachers. We again quote local school authorities: "The sales tax increase is the only possible source presently available to maintain and in- crease the quality of our schools during the next two years!" Don't short-change our Children's right to an adequate Education ?╟÷ help to eliminate over- crowded classrooms, half-day sessions and teacher shortages Ilf Vote "YES" on Tuesday, JUNE 11! PROPER CARE FOR NEVADA'S AGED IS VITAL PART OF TAX Clark County currently pays some $450,000 annually in medical care for the Aged, receiving nothing from Nevada. Under the Sales Tax Amendment, the County's bill would be paid by the State, and Clark County would receive match- ing Federal funds of $500,000 under the Kerr- Mills Act. Nevada's Senior Citizens are assured of Medical Care and Clark County saves $500,000 when You vote "YES" June 11 for the Sales Tax Amendment! NEVADA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY WILL REAP BENEFITS, TOO! The sales tax amendment appropriates $950,000 for construction of a much needed Social Science Building at our own NEVADA SOUTHERN UNI- VERSITY. This facility is essential in plans to make Nevada Southern a 4-YEAR UNIVERSITY. Should the sales tax amendment be rejected, this project could only be financed by the issuance of bonds. Southern Nevada has a right to ?╟÷ and NEEDS A 4-YEAR UNIVERSITY! Vote YES on June 11. TOURISTS TO NEVADA WILL PAY MORE THAN HALF THE TAX One important thing to remember about this particular tax proposal is that the sales fpx in- crease will not affect Nevada residents as it would in other states. For as much as 60% of the sales tax will be paid by tourist visitors to the state! NEVADA - NATION'S ONE SOUND STATE! LET'S KEEP IT SOUND! The slogan, "Nevada ?╟÷ One Sound State" has been invaluable in bringing new Industries, Busi- ness Establishments and Investments to boost Clark County's economy. This financial stability is essential for the continued growth and devel- opment of our Area, so retain a SOUND Nevada vote "YES" on June 11! WILL GO tax revenue
