Las Vegas, on Sat- 1 unlay, June 26. The event is sponsored by the Sportsmen?╟╓s Cluj) for the City of Hope Medi- cal* Center. An All-Coast and All-American quarterback for UCLA in 1942, Waterfield joined the Rams in 1945, following a term of mili- tary service. He earlier was named Most Valuable Player in the Shrine East-West f game of 1945. During Waterfield?╟╓s eight-year playing career with the Rams, the organization won four divi- sional titles, tied for another, and won two world champion- : ? α ? α. ? α tit : Ar ships, including the 1951 world championship for Los 'Angeles, a 24-17 victory over the Cleve- land Browns. One of professional footbalTs all-time greats, Waterfield is prominent in Ram and NFL rec- ord books. His career record of 573 points is still an all-time Ram mark, as are his achieve- ? α * ? α ments of most field goals in one game (5); most points after touchdown career (315); most points after touchdown, one sea- son (54); and most points after touchdown in one game (9) a league record as well. Following the close of his ac- tive career in 1952, Waterfield served a term as offensive back- field coach for the Rams under Sid Gillman, and later was the Rams head coach from 1960 through part of the 1962 season. He has been a member of the Rams scouting staff since 1967. Proceeds from the Victor Award ceremonies go to the City of Hope Medical Center, in fur- therance of its programs in pa- tient care, research and educa- tion, in the battle against catas- trophic diseases.
