' r 3 9 BROADWAY NEW YORK 6r N. Y. TELEPHONE DIGBY -4-0515 CABLE ADDRESS?╟ÑHAPOS" September 24, 1953 Mr. A1 Freeman Sands Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada Dear Al: I cannot let the day go by without writing you to tell you what an effective job I believe you did in the very difficult matter of Rita and Dick. If the press had turned against them I shudder to think what the consequences might have been. ?╟÷ although I think that the law is clearly on Dick's- side. By that I mean that I will be very surprised if the Supreme Court does not hold that Hawaii is part of the United States. However, I also believe that Dick must win his case on the facts so as to insure good public reaction to him. I am very hopeful that you will find it possible to be in Philadelphia with Rita and Dick. their chance for happiness and success in their marriage depends so much upon how the press reacts from here on in. to work with you and I hope that we will have a long association. I can't tell you how sorry I was that I was unable to get out to the wedding. I do not believe that they are out of the woods yet, This is still a critical period for both of them and I want you to know that it was really a great pleasure My best, BCC:RS
