    No further business appearing before the Board at this time the meeting recessed and adjourned until Thursday the 27th day of May, 1937 at the hour of two o'clock P.M. OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK, CITY OF LAS VEGAS, CLARK COUNTY, NEVADA. MAY 27th, 1937. Minutes of a recessed regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas held on the 27th day of May, 1937 at the hour of two o'clock P.M. Roll Call Mayor Arnett, Commissioners Down, Krause Marble and Perry, City Attorney and City Clerk. Absent none. The following letter was presented to the Board at this time: Las Vegas, Nevada, May 20, 1937. TO THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND BOARD OF CITY COMMISSIONERS, LAS VEGAS, NEVADA. Gentlemen; In accordance with the report made to your honorable body by our publicity committee, formal application is herewith made for the sum of $600.00 to be expended for general publicity purposes. Thank you and all good wishes. Respectfully yours, Las Vegas Nevada Chamber of Commerce, Oliver Goerman, Secretary. On motion of Commissioner Krause seconded by Commissioner Perry it was moved and carried that the sum of $400.00 be given from the Publicity Fund of the City of Las Vegas to the Chamber of Commerce to be used for general publicity purposes. Vote was Commissioners Down, Krause, Marble and Perry, and His Honor the Mayor voting aye. Noes, none. Absent none. On motion of Commissioner Marble seconded by Commissioner Perry it was moved and carried that the Board of Commissioners write to Harry L. Hopkins, Administrator W.P.A. for form on which local managers for the W.P.A submit their reports, and the times such reports are expected in the offices from local managers. Vote was Commissioners Down, Krause, Marble and Perry and His Honor the Mayor voting aye. Noes, none. Absent none. On motion of Commissioner Krause seconded by Commissioners Perry it was moved and carried that one slot machine license each be granted the following for the second quarter year, L.L. Arnett, A.L. Salton, and Vegas Sweet Shoppe. Vote was Commissioners Down, Krause, Marble and Perry and His Honor the Mayor voting aye. Noes, none. An ordinance entitled, "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ABANDONMENT AND VACATION OF A PARCEL OF LAND HERE­TOFORE CONSTITUTING A PORTION OF SOUTH MAIN STREET IN THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, CLARK COUNTY, NEVADA," was read to the Board for a first time, and upon second reading upon this date was passed as an emergency ordinance. Vote adopting said Ordinance being Commissioners Down, Krause, Marble and Perry and His Honor the Mayor L.L. Arnett voting aye. Noes, none. Absent none. Said ordinance to be in full force and effect from and afters it complete publication in the Las Vegas Evening Review Journal for a period of two consecutive weeks. Said ordinance to be known as Ordinance No. 225. The following letter was presented to the Board at this time. San Leandro, California. May 22, 1937. Mr. C.D. Baker, City Engineer, Las Vegas, Nevada. Dear Sir; In connection with our subcontract for paving streets in the City of Las Vegas, Nevada, under contract Number Nev. 1021 D, we respectfully request we be allowed to pay by check instead of cash. We feel that there is considerable risk in connection with the handling of large amounts of cash, hold­ing same in our hands over night or until men are paid, also that we do not have the value of a cancelled cheek as a receipt from men as payment for wages. We wish to add that our banking will be done by the local bank. Yours Truly, U.B. Lee, by Irving Elliot. On motion of Commissioner Down seconded by Commissioner Krause it was moved and carried that Mr. U.B. Lee be given permission to pay his employees by check, if the granting of this permission meet with the approval of the State PWA Director. Vote was Commissioners Down, Krause, marble and Perry and His Honor the Mayor voting aye. Noes, none.
