CALL TO ORDER CSUN Senate President Jack E. Spicer Jr., called Senate Meeting to order at 4:02pm. II. APPROVAL OF SENATE MINUTES "19-6 Motion to approve Senate Minutes 19-6 by Senator Kurzer. Seconded by Senator Frankulin. There were no corrections. Call for a vote. Motion carried, unanimously. IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS CSUN Vice President Dick Hubbell announced that there has been a change in ticket distribution. For anyone who doesn't understand the process, they should see him. He announced that on Tuesday he had an Organizations Board meeting explaining Ticket Distribution. This meeting was not a mandatory one. UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA. ANNOUNCEMENTS - continued- CSUN Senate President Jack Spicer announced that Kari Cozine has resigned from her Education Seat due to a schedule conflict with a class and the Senate Meeting. He also announced that he would take nominations for that vacant seat in open discussion. He reminded the Senators that they need to speak in front of a class before the end of the month. He passed, around G.P.A. forms for the Senators to fill out for the following semester. He also mentioned that there would be some items from the retreat brought up later in the meeting. CSUN Senate Secretary Palma Wesely announced that there would be a dinner for Ralph Abernathy and that the CSUN Senators are invited to attend,the dinner. She mentioned that she would like to have a response if they would be attending the dinner before the end of the Senate meeting. V. BOARD AND COMMITTEE REPORTS Philip DaQuino, Publications Board Chair announced that he had. a meeting at 2:00pm today. He also mentioned that in April Lisa Story will be resigning. He also mentioned that due to her leaving apart of the policy needs to be revised. He also mentioned that the Publications Board felt that the Scarlet Letter, should be considered a publication rather than a club. He also mentioned that there would be a SHAC meeting tomorrow. They will be designing the boxer shorts, and discussing the situation regarding donor cards. Robert Lane, Elections Board Chair announced that applications for filing in the Executive Board Election will be given out February 1 - February 14. The filing fee will be $50.00. March 1st and 2nd will be the primary elections for the Executive Board. April 5th and 6th will be the General Elections for the Executive Board election. There will be a elections board meeting Wednesday 25th of January at 2:00pm. Kristi Carlson, Student Services Director announced that all Student Services positions are available. She also mentioned, that, she was in need of&Senator on her board. CSUN Vice President Dick Hubbell proxied for Entertainment and Programming Director Lillian Franky. He announced that the Ralph Abernathy dinner would be January 31st. Se-J^-ate Minutes 0 .9/89 Page 3 19-7 CSUN Vice President Dick Hubbell mentioned that all the advertising for the Ralph Abernathy lecture was out. A big turn out is expected for. the lecture. CSUN Vice President Dick Hubbell gave the OPI report. He mentioned that he interviewed Robert Lane on the Election process on the radio. He also mentioned that there will be a Southern Nevada High School Counselors Association meeting on March 1, 1989. He mentioned that CSUN will be having control of the program. IIIB. EXECUTIVE BOARD NOMINATIONS A. Introduction/Approval of Tyra Flaig as Assistant Entertainment and programming Director. VI. UNFINISHED BUSINESS There was none. VII. NEW BUSINESS A. Approval of $250 for advertising for February 13, 1989 Comedy Competition. (To come out of the 903 account). Motion to approve by Senator Frankulin. Seconded by Senator Kurzer. There was discussion. Call for a vote. Motion carried, unanimously. C. Motion to form an Ad Hoc Committee to study the possibility of changing the Editor's position from a student position to a full time professional position at the Yellin1 Rebel, by CSUN Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Bailey. Seconded by Senator Hoferer. There was discussion. There was no action done on this motion. D. Motion to form an Ad Hoc Committee to study the divorcement of KUNV from CSUN, by CSUN Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Bailey. Seconded by Senator W/alker. Senate Minutes 01/19/89 Page 4 19-7 There was discussion. Members that were nominated to be on the Ad Hoc Committee for the KUNV Divorcement: Rob Rosenthal, Dick Hubbell, Jessie Young, Ross Kurzer, Ray Frankulin. There was discussion. Call for a vote. Motion carried with fifteen in favor, no opposed, and one abstention (DeMars). Motion to approve by Senator Walker. Seconded by Senator Saunders. There was discussion. Connie Scordato, Yellin1 Rebel advertising Manager addressed the Senate. There was discussion. Call for a vote. Motion carried with fifteen in favor, one opposed (DeMars) and no abstentions. E. Override of Food and Beverage Operating Policy. The Lady Rebels game will be having a party after their game and funds raised from food and drink sales will be donated with 75% to the ATO's and 2 5% to CSUN. Motion to approve by CSUN Vice President Dick Hubbell. Seconded by Senator Walker. There was discussion. CSUN Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Bailey retained the gavel. There was discussion. OPEN DISCUSSSION Senator DeMars apologized for being late. He also was glad that the ATO1s money was passed. CSUN Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Bailey thanked the Senators for coming to the retreat. He felt that a lot was accomplished. He also mentioned that during the issue with the ATO1s he was playing the Devil's advict. Senator Young mentioned that she enjoyed the Senate Retreat. Senator Colebrook mentioned that passing the ATO issue was a good thing. Senator Bauhs mentioned that there are still no desks in the Engineering Building. He also nominated Paige Zielinski. Senator Valenti nominated Bud Benneman to the vacant Business and Economics Seat. Senator Walker nominated Mim Clay for the vacant Science and Math Seat. He also nominated Mario Menez to the vacant Business and Econmics Seat. Senator Frankulin felt that the Scarlet Letter is a club for learning. He also mentioned that he didn't feel that the Scarlet Letter is a publication since it is not a regular publication. Senator Saunders mentioned that the reason for her not being at the retreat was due to her sister having her baby in the hospital. Senator Polovina felt that the retreat was positive. She felt that they should be twice a semester. She also mentioned that a friend of hers was having an art exhibit at Alta Ham. Senator Hoferer felt that the Senate Retreat was positive and a good thing to have. Senator Geihs nominated Marian Deniston to the Science and Math Seat. Senator Kurzer rooted for the 49ers for Super Bowl Sunday. He also mentioned that CSUN should get a team x together for the College Bowl. CSUN Vice President Dick Hubbell mentioned that he was sick on the day of the Senate Retreat. He also was glad about the decision for the ATOs. Senate Minutes 01/19/89 P^ ge 6 -7 CSUN Sentf.fa President Pro Tempore Greg Bailey nominated Sammy Allcall to the vacant Business and Economics Seat. He also mentioned that he would like to see some legislation for the IBM 4381 computer for the Business and Economics Building. Philip. DaQuino, Publications Board chair mentioned that Anita Stockbaur mentioned that President Maxson's wife needed some with the publicity for Fire Prevention. He also mentioned that Melanie and Palma did a good job arranging the retreat. Todd Gottschalk announced that the Senate should support Mim Clay and Bud Benneman for senate seats. CSUN Senate President Jack Spicer mentioned that the Senators need to tell him the class they will be speaking to for their reqiurement. He nominated Vicki NewBerry for the vacant Health Sciences Seat. He nominated Steve Lee for the vacant Business and Economics Seat. He nominated Stephanie Corroran for the vacant Education seat. XI.
