I Los Angelas, April 6 , 1946 733* F. Wengert: (CC - Mr. W. C. Psrkins Mr. J. L. Irish Mr. Wm. Reinhardt) Please refer to Mr. Perkine1 letter of March >Oth, file LA-.20-O-3# and reference to exchange of correspondence in oonneotion with traneite pipe and fittings held at Las Vegas for emergency repairs. Insofar as the distribution lines operated and main* talned by the Water Company are concerned, these lines are of necessity oast Iron pipe, the lines are mostly in city streets and alleys, where City employes excavate from time to time, and transits is not suitable, as a sharp-pointed plok will readily penetrate that material. The Water Company carries its own emergency atook of various siees of oast Iron pipe. In the producing field, there are two reservoirs Independently supplied from wells and springs. We have always felt that this service should bs protected with emergency pipe that would permit diverting a well or two in event of serious aandlng-in or failure of one or more welle reducing the supply to one of the reservoirs below the demand thereon, and there should, of oourse, be a reasonable amount available for minor replacements.
