In what Desert Inn Golf Pro Don Welch called "one of the best and tightest Gold Cups of them all," golfers from the Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis won the annual Gold Cup Tournament at the Dl Country Club. Coming in with a low four-day score of 1027, the Missouri linksmen held off golfers from the Cherry Hills Country Club of Denver and the Diamond Oaks Country Club of Ft. Worth, who tied for second with scores of 1039. "The tournament was a huge success," Welch beamed, "and we're looking for an even better one, possibly expanded, next season." The winning St. Louis golfers were: Karl K. Vollmer, W. J. Berkley, Joe Switzer, Ed Senturia, Don Elsaesser, W. A. Hayes, Jr., Wm. Sanborn, M. D. Eagleton, D. O. Burst and Biron Valier. The Cherry Hills team was composed of Joe Dyer, Potts Berglund, Dick Braun, Fred Manning, Jr., Maury West, Marc Bogue, Cecil Boyd, Bob Mitton, Matt Skorey and George Mack. The Diamond Oaks group was made up of Dwight Johnston, Stu Hepburn, Jack Scott, Al Porter, W. Conditt, Guy Cummings, C. H. Gooding, Frank Kline, J. Ellis and W. B. Collup. The remaining 13 teams in order of finish were: La Jolla Country Club, San Diego, 1042; Lake wood Country Club, Dallas, 1044; El Dorado Country Club, Houston, 1052; Mesa Country Club, Ariz., 1057; Cheyenne Country Club, Wyo., 1060; Lakeside Country Club, L.A., 1063; Colonial Country Club, Memphis, 1064; Oaks Country Club, Tulsa, 1069; Earl Grey Country Club, Calgary, 1071; Tacoma Country Club, Wash., 1072; Sharon Heights Country Club, San Francisco, 1092; Sherwod Forest Country Club, Baton Rouge, 1103; and Crystal Lake Country Club, Chicago, 1128. COUNTRY CLUB TO ADD TENNIS COURTS, PRO SHOP Dl Tennis Pro Chuck Kellogg proudly announced the addition of three new courts, a new pro shop and resurfacing the two existing courts for the Dl Country Club. The additions and renovations will make it possible for the Dl to hold major tennis events including championships and this Kellogg is planning. The new facilities will assure CC members and guests sufficient court space and increase the opportunity for play. Construction and changes are expected to be completed by late September, according to Kellogg. Annual Fall Roundup Golf Tourney To Get Underway At D.I. September 26-27 The Tenth Annual Fall Roundup of Golf will be held at the Desert Inn Country Club, Sept. 26-27, it was announced by Dl Director of Sports Don Welch. Competition for both men and women will be set up during the gala two-day event. Last year more than 300 non-resident members from all over the country took part in the Roundup. This year a like number is expected to participate. Teams are put together on the basis of handicaps, scoring is two best balls a foursome. In 1966 the winners were: First, Alvin W. Glass, Los Angeles; John B. Cammann, La Jolla; Phil T. Hanna, Van Nuys and Gordon A. Martin, Costa Mesa. Second, John Redmond, Menlo Park; Addison J. Walker, Leawood, Kansas; David Kras- ner, Chicago and Dr. David H. Brody, St. Paul. Third, (tie) Charles P. Andres, Garden Grove; James R. Mitchell, Santa Ana; George Soule, Studio City; Percy Lee, Colorado Springs and N. M. Giordano, Del Mar; Bernard Wishney, Long Beach, Cameron Mitchell, Pacific Palisades; and Jack Silverman, Palo Alto. Fifth, James Crotzer, Spokane; Samuel Marcus, Denver; David Solomon, Encino and Jarold Fendler, Los Angeles.
