ward-geoffrion 2-2-2 In both of his Indy victories, Ward established track records for the event, among the numerous other records set during his career. Bernard "Boom-Boom'' Geoffrion, who starred as right wing with the Montreal Canadiens for fourteen seasons (1950-1964), was a member of six Stanley Cup teams, five of them in succession. Geoffrion shares NHL records for most goals in one season by a right wing (50), and most points scored in one season by a right wing (95). He holds the record for most goals in one season by a rookie (30). He is a member of the NHL?╟╓s elite 250-goal club, having scored 393 goals over a total career of sixteen seasons and 883 games. Geoffrion was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy, as "most proficient in his first year in the NHL," and the Art Hoss Trophy (twice) for leading the league in points scored during a regular season. He also holds the Hart Memorial Trophy as "most valuable to his team," awarded in 1961. Geoffrion is among the top ten among all-time NHL point leaders, with 393 goals and 429 assists for 822 points. On the all-time assist list, Geoffrion is eleventh, just missing the magic circle. Proceeds from the Sportsmen?╟╓s World Awards, which will be televised nationally by Hughes Sports Network, will go to further the battle against catastrophic disease by the free, nonsectarian City of Hope. Trans World Airlines has been designated official carrier for the event, bringing the honorees and other dignitaries to the Las Vegas festivities from all parts of the world. ////// // mtitft (570sj)
