Comedian Dave Barry, long a I fave on the Strip, returns with a | batch of topical gags, plus a re-I prise of some of the very funny 1 bits that always get big < yocks 1 here, including his anti-women I jokes, singing commercials about I gambling, and impreshes of Liber-I ace and Winston Churchill. A new Donn Arden production 1 number, ?╟úEveryffnng Under the I Moon,?╟Ñ features singer Art John-I son and the Arden Dancers (13), I with a spectacular Kahlua cere-I moni^l fire dance by Dick Goltry I and Freddie Letuli. The Morlidors, I two girls and a boy doing a rag I doll novelty skit, are held over 1 from the previous show. Carlton 1 Hayes and his orch (16) capably I backs the show, which is skedded 8 for four weeks. Duke. NX Latin Qtr.do Close For One-Day Facelift The Latin Quarter, N.Y.; is elated to close Oct. 22 for one day ill order to change sets and make some minor alterations on the stage for its new show which will preem Oct. 24. New show will he headlined by Jane Russell with Anna Maria Alberghetti coming in Nov. 6. Spot has also set Betty Grable for an April date at the spot. Di^acia^?·|te^will do the new dispft^witn rehearsals slated to start late next month or at the winning of October. (FOLLOWUP) The Latin Quarter change.(tf headliners produces a bill which should provide holiday strength on the Stem. The current pairing rep-resents a wide diversity in types of projection. Roberta Sherwood, I belts with the oldtime fervor, and I Corbett Monica (New Acts) under-! states his case. However, the pair come out in complete control of the situation*. i Miss Sherwood, who came up via ?╟≤ the Florida lounges and tremendous personal publicity in the Walter Winchell column, is no stranger to New York having played previously at the Copaca-bana about two years ago. This Florida matron punched out a tune with a zealousness. She?╟╓s on tor no less than 40 minutes, trotting out virtually every one in the book, presumably* to test fdr effect m the room. During that time, she beats out such, durables as_ Lazy River?╟Ñ with her own cymbal accompaniment, and also her trade-marked ?╟úYou?╟╓re Nobody?╟Ñ along with ?╟úWreck of Old 97?╟Ñ a hymn, and what haVe you, and the clien-i tele cheers?.her on. For added I measure she brought ^ out her ola-I est son wW^chimed in with Girl I of My Dreams?╟Ñ Probably, she s itrving to a dynasty like i Crosby.?╟Ñ She " did excellently in 1 this crowd. Accompanying her are I pianist Walter De Lorenzo and I guitarist Red Newmark, who give I her a solid base. . The other new act is the Man-1 lex Duo, jugglers and plate spm-8 ners. Diminutive Connie Haines emerged from retirement to pres-L ent a pleasant, diversified song-aldg in her 25-minute turn, at me Moulin Rouge. Miss Haines, making her first professional appearance since she quit a few years ago, pleased the opening night crowd ft wither dozen or so tunes. How-9 even she will need time and book-m ings to rebuild as a name, nnd 1 meanwhile Chances for biz at the Moulin are just so-so. At times the star appeared nervous, due prob-> ably to her absence from the stage. Backed by Eddie Grady?╟╓s special rhythm section, consisting of a bass, skin-beater and 88, the thrush shows savvy with her smartly* paced, varied repertoire, including the bouncy ?╟úWitchcraft,?╟╓ a haunting rendition of ?╟úSeptember Song, a medley of disk hits from her Tommy Dorsey orch days, a sizzling ?╟úWhat Is This Thing Galled Love? A bit with bat oner Dick Stabile (on the sax), ?╟úI Can?╟╓t Give You Anything But Love,?╟╓?╟╓ was good, but the lead-in try for humor weak.
