Sands general manager Jack Entratter had the announcement of the treat made in an unusual stagey manner ?╟÷ at midnight a pretty chorine came onstage in the Copa Room, quited the crowd, and politely announced that everything was on the house. The 750 patrons in that room, who had already paid $25 a head for their seats, dinner and gift for New Year's Eve were told to turn in their dinner tabs at the casino cashier for refund when the party was over ?╟÷ and more was coming. All food and drink throughout the hotel was free from midnight on. That included a champagne breakfeast for 1,000. Guests registered at the hotel or for the celebration in the Copa Room got expensive gifts. More than 30 cases of Scotch were consumed, as well as 200 bottles of imported champagne, and food servings for over 6500 visitors.
