During 1962 many friends were made. And our group supplied speakers for various organizations. A committee was formed to locate a suitable house for a Day Center. However, none were found. More steps were taken in 1963. The first awards dinner was held. During this year a "Hoedown for Dessi" was given py the Service League. -This was the year that the bank balance took a definate upswing. A National Convention held in Washington D.C. proved to be successful on the National scene. A representative was present when President Kennedy signed, two federal bills aiding the retarded. 1964 is filled with optimistic notes. A Sunday school for the retarded was established and again a member attended the National Convention . A big step looms in the future. Even though the Governor's Committee for study of the Retarded Child and Needs for a Resident Home in- Clark County has been approved (and since been disbanded) this does not guarantee its final establishment here. Intertwined with this problem is yet another one; the acquiring of land for future expansion. Yet these years were good too. The Opportunity Center opened. Benefits were successful, and the first Southwestern Conference was held in Arizonia. Many donations were received} and a concert an "Afternoon with Raoul" was sponsored. And finally the illegal group became legitimate in a big way at the National Convention. It was the first time the Clark County Association could vote in the National Conferences. Clark County association has worked hard to bring about all these programs for the retarded children's education. Is your child receiving some of these benfits? won't you help us to continue to work for improved facilities and programs? We need your membership and your active support.
