When the Folies Bergere first opened in Paris, the spectacular stage production attracted audiences by the thousands. The revue boasted a variety of entertainment consisting of beautiful women dancing and singing, and the specialty acts; jugglers, acrobats, clowns, mimes, and animal acts. However, this entertaining bill of fare seemed pale in comparison to the risque antics presented the night the first "undraped" female unveiled her "charms" before the Folies crowd! The new-found vogue caught on like wildfire after repeated court trials and protestations, and the "naughty" Folies Bergere became famous for those bare beauties at the turn of the century. By 1918, the nude showgirl had become the main box-office attraction, quietly replacing the headlining stars and setting the stage for the Folies spectacular to be built around the dazzling appeal of "Les Mannequins." Today in Las Vegas, the celebrated showgirl is still the featured attraction in the Tropicana's Folies Bergere. The beauty of the Folies girl is notorious! She ranges in height from 5'8" to 6'2" and keeps herself on a strict diet and exercise program in order to keep that captivating figure! The Tropicana's showgirl epitomizes the famous Folies Bergere showgirls that scandalized Paris in the early 1900's. Her beauty and charm, the graceful movements she exhibits on stage, all serve to make the Folies production the glamorous spectacle you've come to enjoy! The costumes that sparkle and glitter with sequins and daring designs add that unmistakable look of the Folies Bergere showgirl! She parades around the stage wearing costumes and headpieces that weigh as much as 30 pounds apiece and cost upwards of $5000 per gown!
