I am enclosing some pictures of the show which might give you a clearer idea of why I thought it might be worth a LIFE treatment* I felt there were two unusual angles to this shows 19 the lavish color of the drum production numbers and 2) the Merri11-Armstrong duet* Up there together, the two seemed so incongruous, and yet so natural* Actually, it almost reminded you of America itself?╟÷-black and white, jazz and opera ?╟÷- the very tolerance and understanding of such extreme forms of thinking and people for each other* The patter between Merrill and Armstrong goes something like thiss MERRILL* This opera work, it's very hard, Pops. Alot of fortissimo, estinato, and stupendissimo. I worked hard this evening on my sharps and flats. What'd you do to$ay? ARMSTRONG: Well, I worked pretty hard to, man!
