Call to Order The tenth meeting of the Consolidated Student Senate was called to order by the Senate President at 4:00 p.m. in Lounge 203 of the Moyer Student Union Building. Roll Call Members in Attendance Kelly Campbell Sandy Williams Bill I-Ialdeman Claire Dowell Dale Ilulen Pam Roberts Derrek Yelton Cindy Simia-excused absent Susana Reyes Dorothy Ilalpin David Martinez Dave Levins Bryan O ' Shields-unexcused late "Skip" Kelley Marty Burzinski Robert Stamper-excused absent Ray Corbett Rick Oshinksi Carol Tarpley Approval of Minutes #9 There were no corrections to the Minutes of Senate Meeting #9, there-fore, they stood approved. Executive Board Announcements UNR-UNLV Football Game President Campbell announced to the Senate that the UNLV-UNR football game was cancelled for next year. There will be no rematch next football season. However, he is trying to do something about it. Radio Station Manager President Campbell announced to the Senate that John Winstrom accepted the job as UNLV1s Radio Station Manager. He is waiting for a written offer from Dr. Glennen. Conference in Washington, D.C. Vice-President Wvman reported that the Conference was a success. The Senators who attended will be giving a workshop on Tuesday February 12, from 2:30-3:30. The "Yell" will be printing some articles also. Senate President Pro Tempore, Burzinski will be presenting a written report. Republican Convention Senate President Pro Temprere, Burzinski announced that there will be a convention at Ceasar's Palace on February 15, 1980. Tickets can be purchased from Dave Entler, there is a limited supply. Minutes-Senate Meeting #10 February 5, 198 0 Page 2 When does Senate Meeting Start? Senate President Alderman reminded the Senate that when they were elected to serve on the Senate that the meeting were every Tuesday, starting at 4:00 p.m. V, Executive Board Announcements A. Managing Editor Yell Newspaper, Lisa Riley Senator Roberts moved to approve Lisa Riley the motion was seconded. The motion passea unanimously. VI. Committee Reports A. Appropriations Board There was no report. B. Entertainment and Programming Board There was no report. C. Organizations Board There was no meeting due to lack of auorum. Next meeting will be February 7, 1980 at 2:30 p.m. D. By-Laws Committee There was no report. E. Energy Committee Vice-President Wyman thanked the Sigma Nu Fraternity for their help distributing carpooling forms during registration. The committee received Energy bumper stickers from Washington feel free to get one. It was announced that Al Cameron resigned from the committee. F. Academic Standards Committee Senator Oshinksi reported that he and Senator Dowell attended the meeting. A withdrawal policy for the mini-term was proposed. Also a policy for cheating and plagiarism was tabled until the next meeting. Senator Oshinski request some input from the Senate. Discussion took place. G. Grievance Committee Senator Tarpley informed the Senate that the rules "from 1975 are going to be used to run the committee. VII. Old Business VIII New Business A. Allied Health College, Senate Vacancy. Nominations Senator Roberts moved to nominate Denise Rajnovich the'motion was seconded. Voting will take place the next Senate meeting. B. Request for funds, $500 Hotel Association Convention Day Senate President Pro Tempore, Burzinski moved to approve the $500 which would be allocated from the matching funds account and that in the future the Hotel Association will be able to obtain up to $1000 for the rest of the academic year from the matching funds account. Senate Meeting #10 Bebruary 5, 19 80 Page 3 Discussion than took place on the motion. There was a call for the question which passed. A vote was taken on the main motion which passed with 16 in favor and one opposed. C. Senate Meeting Time Change Proposal Senator Levins moved to change the Senate Meetings to 3:00 p.m. in the summer the motion was seconded. Senate President Pro Temprore Burzinski objected to the consideration which passed with 7 in favor and 10 opposed. The main motion failed. D. Oustanding Senator Award Senator Levins moved to approve the rules for the Outstanding Senator Award the motion was seconded. Dicussion took place. There was a call for the question which passed with 16 in favor and one opposed. The vote was taken on the main motion which passed with fifteen in favor and two abstentions. E. Jog-a-thon Presentation Senate President Alderman turned the floor over to Ed Schrader coordinator this year for the jog-a-thon. He explained to the Senate that each group participating will receive 50% of the money earned and collected. He also explained how an individual can receive gifts for participating. Open Discussion Senator Kelley asked that his proposed Draft Resolution 4-7980 be placed on next weeks agenda. Cheating and Plagiarism Policy i Senator Oshinski asked that the consideration on cheating and plagiarism be placed on the next Senate meeting. . . CSUN Appreciation Award Senator Oshinski moved to give the Sigma Chi fraternity in Washington D.C., Senator Laxalt, Floyd Lamb and those who contributed, to receive a CSUN appreciation award there was a second. The motion passed with fourteen in favor, one opposed, and two abstentions. Senator Martinez asked President Campbell if he needed a vote of confidence from the Senate concerning the UNLV-UNR football game. President Campbell responded by saying that probably next week he will be making a statement to the press. Senate-President Pro Tempore announced to the Senate that there is going to be a blood drive this week. Senator Oshinski moved to adjourn the motion was seconded. The motion passed.
