WHEREAS, because her love of the United States exceeded her own personal considerations, Mrs. Marion Miller, a resident of Los Angeles County, a loyal American and a devoted wife and mother, in October, 1950 agreed to serve the Federal Bureau of Investigation in fighting subversion by joining the Los Angeles Committee for the Protection of the Foreign Born to report on its activities; and WHEREAS, for five years, Mrs. Marion Miller participated in the activities of the Los Angeles Committee for the Protection of the Foreign Bom and ultimately, with her husband, joined the Communist Party, and continued to serve the Federal Bureau of Investigation with accurate reports on the activities of these organizations; and WHEREAS, as a result of her activities, Mrs. Miller and her family became social outcasts, her loyalty to the United States was questioned, and she was faced with the tremendous job of protecting her son from being educated and reared as a Communist; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Marion Miller's dark days as a counterspy ended in October, 1955, when she testified laefore the Department of Justice in Washington, D. C., with her testimony and her information providing the Federal Bureau of Investigation with much valuable information concerning subversive activities and being instrumental in the Government's classifying the Los Angeles Committee for the Protection of the Foreign Born as a subversive front organization; and WHEREAS, as a result of her testimony, Mrs. Miller and her family became the target of a Communist inspired campaign to punish her by holding her up to ridicule and scorn: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles extends its highest commendations to Mrs. Marion Miller for her heroic service to the United States of America and her willingness to suffer extreme personal hardships and sacrifices for her belief in democracy; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Marion Miller as a token of appreciation and esteem from the Board of Supervisors and the people of Los Angeles County.
