Haacke Division Engineer Union Pacific Railroad Company £025 Hunter Street Los Angeles, California Subject: Las Vegas V H e y Water District - Specification No. 6 - Schedule H Construction of Feeder Mains Gentlemen: R . U * m a r 2 8 195c With reference to the subject project, please refer to Sheet H-2 covering the jacked encasement under the railroad tracks, along Washington Avenue extended. Fisher Contracting Company has requested permission to use open-cut construction between the easterly main track and the switching track. The Contractor feels the easing is so shallow he will encounter difficulties from caving at the heading where a man must work. It is understood that your Las Vegas representative, Mr. Scherer, concurs in this opinion but advised that the formal request should be made to your office. The Contractor proposes to use a back-hoe and to haul the excavated material away with trucks which would be operated across the switching track on planks placed over the track. If approved, the Contractor, of course, would be subject to any additional requirements of the Railroad. Inasmuch as the Contractor is ready to proceed with this work a prompt reply would be appreciated. Very truly yours, JAMES M. MONTGOMERY R . C . Kenmir RCK:rv cc: Mr. R- L.
