This Clipping From BROOKLYN, N. Y. )NG ISLAND ADVOCATE i iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiifiiiiiim |?║ roadway iffer hours ,.....&} BAY \i", genial maitre d' at the Quarter, reserved my favor- le for me Thursday evening Eddie Risman, and E. M. unfolded their latest edition in Arden's spectacular revue, Prtftut Dames"...The new il extravaganza headlines \ Puleo and his Harmonica ind the brilliant singing iene Soie Carson ... Johnny of course, came to fame as iber of the Borrah Minevitch s and has remained great h the years. Carson Is dark haired, ?╟≤ and cute, extremely versa- d is actuaulluy one of the st women I have ever seen tfe. She sang, mimiced and her way right into the )f the usual hard-to-please ighter crowd, iss Carson's dudes a take-oft* on the Ed lllilillll Murrow' TVer ?╟÷ playing the role of a star being interviewed in her Hollywood home. Another brilliant comedy skit is a son she calls, "The Seven Lively Arts" wliic.tr spels out seven approaches of the fair sex. This_ hilarious comedy is the highlight of her brilliant material which is masterfully delivered. In addition to a bevy of new ensemble beauties who parade about in $120,000 of costuming, "All About Dames" features a flock of new talent which includes one of my favorites ?╟÷ songwriter and songstress Pony Sherrell who wrote the music as well as the lyrics for the new Latin Quarter Quarter how. Another beauty. Baubouka, an exotic dancer from Greece which would seem to be the best payment America has received so far on their lend-lease program. The Latin Quarter enjoys the prestige of being America's most successful cabaret and' one of the many reasons is that there is something doing every minute: Jo Lombardi and his orchestra are ou hand for show time and dancing alternating with Buddy Har- Lowe's band. Add a couple of more good reasons such as top stars, brilliant production and excellent food and.it's easy to figure out why the Latin Quarter is New York's greatest entertainment value. * * A- FLASH MASON, ace accordionist at the Village Barn, was a former member of "The Sons of The Purple Sage," famed western TV group .... Jose Melis, musical director for the "Tonight" show was dining at the China Bowl and Manager Wong Foo stopped by Jose's table and inquired: "Is everything all right?" "Yes," Melis said, "your food is j HAD THE CLASSIFIED ADS up to Par", .... Joey Adams tells abot a big Texan from a small town who visited N. Y. and his first sight-seeing trip was to .a skyscraper with a revolving door; entrance to the observation tower. The big Texan got stuck in the revolving door for a couple of hours and when freed he headed back to Texas. When asked about his trip to N.Y., Tex explained, "It's not so big, butit's sure rond." !4Avec Plaisir' Dazzles I*? at Stardust Opening BY JOHN L. SCOTT . LAS VEGAS, Oct. 14 They said the first two Lido de Paris shows at the Stardust Hotel couldn't be topped, but "Avec Plaisir," third edition/has done it. Of course, the Bluebell Girls (nude to the waist) look pretty much the same although they're a brand new group; there's another ice skating number, and another waterfall, but individual acts are stronger in this edition and production numbers stunning. Six Lifts i The Cafe Continental's huge stage boasts six gigantic hydraulic lifts, which are raised and lowered for quick scenery changes and split level settings. Rene Fraday and Pierre Louis - Guerin, who conceived and produced "Avee Plaisir," and Donn Arden, who staged it, have parlayed dazzling sets, gorgeous costumes, effective lighting and beautiful girls into a spectacular continental-type production that should keep he-Stardust's 750-seat thea- ;er-restaurant filled for at east a year. Featured items include a lovel Tyrolean scene during yhich a troupe of Alpine en- ertainers score heavily with ;Ur quaint dances; a Paris-at- night sequence in which statues come to life and cavort in front of a swimming pool complete with beautiful nymphs; a Russian Czarist number of awesome proportions: "Rhapsody in Blue," featuring the dancing waters, and "Bal Masque," spotlighting the Bluebell Girls and the Arden Dancers. Rain Scene There's even a rain scene which threatens to, but doesn't, inundate ringsiders. Individual artists entertain between these exciting sequences. Lily Yokoi, a pretty girl, does amazing things on bicycle; Les Curibes combine acrobatic dancing with comedy; Manetti and Beck have fun in a breakaway Model T; Powers and Parker offer a thrilling ice skating adagio, Rudy Cardenas proves he's one of the world's ranking jugglers; and Rolando is a first-rate equilibrist.-. Edith Georges is a winsome Mile. Lido. Alexo and Vera dance in the briefest of costumes. Eddie O'Neil and his orchestra deserve a big hand. This Clipping From WHERE MAGAZINE NEW YORK, N.Y.
