Inside Hut: Aladdin seeks newGuiness bingo record Bingo is one of the most popular forms of gambling in the United States, and leave it to Las Vegas to put on the biggest bingo bonanza in the world. Little old ladies and blue collar workers across the nation play bingo in church halls and other meeting places hoping to hit the big one, but what they?╟╓re playing for is peanuts com- pared the giant games which have become popular at- tractions at the Aladdin Hotel here. Aladdin officials have provided the Guineas ?╟úBook of World Records; with af- fidavits showing that the Aladdin holds the record for the world?╟╓s largest bingo games in terms of money given away and people playing. In the past several months, business has proven so good that the monthly giants have risen from $25,000 to $40,000 to $60,000 in total give away prize money . Now* Aladdin officials are planning the ?╟úgrand daddy?╟Ñ of them all, what is being billed as ?╟úthe biggest cash bingo game in the history of the world,?╟Ñ! $100,000. Hotel officials have set Feb. 20 for the historic bingo session, which will be divided into two halves including 20 games each. More than 3,000 persons have jammed into the 7,500- seat Aladdin Theater for the Performing Arts to play in the big bingo games in the past months, and with two weeks left before the next session, more than 1,000 boards have already been sold. Between 4,000 and 5,000 players are expected Feb. 20. Landmark names Mahar casino head Jimmy Mahar, a 31-year resident of Las Vegas and a lifelong gaming employe, has been named casino manager of the Landmark Hotel. General Manager James A. Wadsworth, himself ap- pointed in November, named Mahar to replace A1 Casorotto, who resigned recently. Joining Mahar in key casino positions are Johnny Schaffer as swing shift manager, Jim Costa as day shift manager, Jock Wilson as graveyard manager, and Jerry Maccioli as relief manager. All but Wilson, who was promoted from within, are transfers from other Summa hotels. They replace shift bosses Elvis Merry man, Bob Harrington, and Bill Leary. Junket coordinator Faith Larson also left the hotel in the same shakeup, but has not yet been replaced. McGahn sees early passage of AC gaming From the Atlantic City Press State Sen. Joseph L. McGahn, D-Atlantic, predict- ed passage of the casino gambling law by early May enabling the dice to roll in Atlantic City by Easter of 1978. McGahn said the current timetable for passage of the laws ?╟÷ which he said he wanted to be the ?╟ústrongest piece of legislation in the world?╟Ñ ?╟÷ calls for state lawmakers to debate the measure after the legislature reconvenes in April. After the bill is passed and signed by Gov. Brendan T. Byrne, a five-member gambling commission will be formed to review all casino applications. ?╟úEven if we pass the laws in early May and if the commission is formed immediately, it can take as long as six months before a license is granted,?╟Ñ McGahn said. McGahn and Assemblyman Steven Perskie, D-Atlantic, say they are willing to change their casino gambling bills so a hotel with 500 to 550 rooms could operate a casino. McGahn previously called for hotels to have at least 750 rooms and Perskie?╟╓s bill called for 400 rooms. Each room must have 325 square feet. Gaming board OK?╟╓s license for Mae George The state Gaming Control Board has recommended Wednesday that wealthy bus- iness woman Mae Ellen George get a permanent li- cense as major stockholder and officer in the Aladdin Hotel and Casino. He was rather diplomatic when commenting on qther members of tennis?╟╓royal court. ?╟úJimmy Connors' court manners are getting better. He?╟╓s going to be a tennis superstar. ?╟úWomen?╟╓s tennis needs Billie Jean back. She adds color and depth. I hope her knee injury will be all right. ?╟úBut if you have a Billie Jean with a bad knee and a Margaret Court who?╟╓s over the hill, all you?╟╓ll have is Chrissie Evert. Women?╟╓s tennis doesn't have the depth men?╟╓s does. The ?╟úsenior statesman?╟Ñ will be 59 years old soon. ?╟úMy ambition is to play tennis when I?╟╓m 90, like the King of Sweden. When we were over there, I played tennis with the King.?╟Ñ And just in case anyone thinks that he is not au courant with what's happening in Las Vegas, Riggs plans to take on and defeat the blackjack tables with his own winning system. The ?╟úsenior statesman?╟Ñ said he plans to enter the Horseshoe's World Champion Poker Game this year. He added he would bet on anything. Bobby Riggs is a promoter par excellence who will keep this gambling town on guard and off balance with his outrageous and lucrative wagers. Finally, it?╟╓s to the Hacienda for another spin on the ice called ?╟úSpice On Ice 77,?╟Ñ a terrific way to end the journey. But now it?╟╓s time to check the weather back in Buffalo. Whoops, it's getting warmer so you should go. What?╟╓s that? You?╟╓re afraid of floods along the Niagara River? Well, in that case, do an about-face and take a look at the lounge acts again. Why not, it sure beats looking at melting icebergs in New York. FEBRUARY 17 THRU MARCH 2 IN THE CONGO SHOWROOM MUSICAL DIRECTOR FOR MR.
