8- lay-off, to stop digging. They swear Carol is on a paid vacation in Europe and can be of no help, Jeff knows this trip is Carol's second payoff then, the first was enough money to buy her discotheque right after June's death. Wanting to know more, Jeff presses, using Peggy's research and what he has discovered himself. They con- cede that Billy threw a wild party here on the launch one night, and smashed drunk, Billy inadvertently pushed a girl, June, overboard. The girl drowned despite Billy1s frantic efforts to save her. (Interspersed with the present the past is shown, Billy, in tuxedo; the party; the accident; Billy diving for her. His horror at her death.) Paced with Billy getting two to twenty years for second degree murder, and they ?╟÷ Sue and Peter ?╟÷ faced with losing a fantastic meal ticket, they all agreed to cover it up. It worked. Until Jeff. However, now In the middle of the lake, another "accident" could cover up the whole story again. For this time they won't depend on knock-out drops and desert heat to do the job for them. Jeff concedes they can kill him, but it's all over for them and Billy. They were set-up by Jeff: Every word spoken on the launch between them has been taken down on tape by Peggy via the mike in his lapel to her on shore. Jeff gives them their choice; accessories to a second degree murder, or kill him and face a first degree murder
