Motion passes 19-0-3. (SENATORS FISK, DAVY, and LAZAROFF abstained.) IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS: V. BOARD AND COMMITTEE REPORTS: A. Senate Committee Reports: B. Faculty Senate/University Committee Reports: C. Director Reports: present. 1. NEVADA STUDENT AFFAIRS DIRECTOR DALEY was not 2. ELECTIONS BOARD DIRECTOR RAMIREZ was not present. 3. ORGANIZATIONS BOARD DIRECTOR AYALA was not present. Assistant Director Miller stated that their next meeting is on Tuesday the 6th. They are discussing restructuring Organizations Board for next year. 4. ENTERTAINMENT & PROGRAMMING DIRECTOR JOHNS was not present. 5. OFFICE OF STUDENT INFORMATION DIRECTOR DE LA FONTAINE was not present. 6. STUDENT SERVICES DIRECTOR FLEISHMAN was not present. SENATOR BASTUNAS (read a report from the Director.) D. Residence Hall Liaison Report: Jen Peck stated that the Residence Halls are sponsoring a light stick capture the flag competition this week. The week after spring break they are planning a karioke night, cosmic bowling, and a hiking trip. E. Student Athlete Advisory Board Liaison Report: No liaison was present. F. Ethnic Student Council Liaison Report: 2 SENATE MINUTES 29-15/ March 22, 1999 Ann Yu stated that they are designing a more recent booklet and are revising their Constitution. Their next meeting is this Thursday. G. Business Manager Report: BUSINESS MANAGER MOORE read the expenditures for the last week: $60.14 to repographics for CSUN brochures, $483.53 to CCD to replenish the CSUN debit card, $50.00 to CCD for over-time costs for the room rental for the Urban World Film Festival, $176.25 for the phone bill for February, $5.50 for noon scene fliers, $99.00 to Target for a new office stereo, $215.00 for the Senate pictures, and $200.00 to the women's center for a co-sponsorship of a sexual assault presentation. There were several questions for the Business Manager. VI. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Action Item: Discussion/Approval of Senate Resolution 29-03, as submitted by SENATOR CLEMENS; SENATOR CLEMENS made a motion to remove the Item from the table, seconded by SENATOR ANZALONE. Move into a vote. Motion passes 22-0-0. SENATOR CLEMENS made a motion to table the Item indefinitely, seconded by SENATOR VENTURA. Move into a vote. Motion passes 22-0-0. B. Action Item: Discussion/Approval of cosponsoring the College of Engineering in the amount of $5,000.00, costs to be encumbered from the CSUN 2702 (general) Account, as submitted by SENATOR WHITAKER; SENATOR WHITAKER made a motion to remove the Item from the table, seconded by SENATOR GREEN. Move into a vote. Motion passes 22-0-0. Motion to approve made by SENATOR WHITAKER, seconded by SENATOR GREEN. There was some discussion. Move into a vote. Motion passes 22-0-0. VII NEW BUSINESS 3 SENATE MINUTES 29-15/ March 22, 1999 A. Action Item: Discussion/Approval of the following people to serve on the CSUN Student Teaching Scholarship Selection Committee: Dr. Terry Novak, Dr. Pamela Staples, David Fisk, Stephanie Davy, and Johnny Anzalone, as submitted by SENATOR FISK; Motion to approve made by SENATOR FISK, seconded by SENATOR GARCIA. There was some discussion. Move into a vote. Motion passes 19-0-3. (SENATORS FISK, ANZALONE, and DAVY abstained.) B. Action Item: Discussion/Approval of expending an amount not to exceed $518 for security at REBELPALOOZA, costs to be encumbered from the CSUN 2702 (general) Account, as submitted by SENATOR VENTURA; Motion to approve made by SENATOR VENTURA, seconded by SENATOR GREEN. Move into a vote. Motion passes 21-0-1. (SENATOR KNAPP abstained.) VIII. PUBLIC COMMENT IX. EXECUTIVE BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS AND SUMMATIONS PRESIDENT PRICE (read a report from E&P DIRECTOR JOHNS.) He also stated that they are beginning interviews for the Judicial Council after spring break. He hasn't heard anything back from Dr. Harter regarding KUNV. The CSUN Leadership Scholarship Committee will hopefully meet before the end of the week. SENATE PRESIDENT KIMBROUGH stated that he is pleased they passed the Item for the Engineering College. He needs more people to serve on the IAC. He went to the Elections Board meeting today and people need to speak up when they think things aren't running as smoothly as they should be. He hopes nobody was offended by the things he had to say and he was just stating what he knew. X. GOOD OF THE SENATE SENATOR BINETTI stated that it would have been nice if more people had shown up to the retreat. She has heard negative responses from many students about the flunking fliers and she asked that the rest of the fliers be removed. SENATOR DAVY stated that she also did not approve of the flunking fliers. SENATOR GARCIA stated that the retreat was great and wished everyone a safe spring break. 4 SENATE MINUTES 29-15/ March 22, 1999 SENATOR RAFF AIL had no comment. SENATOR SCHROEDER stated that there are personal conflicts involved with the Elections Board. If Senators see or hear something they need to show up to the meetings and voice their opinions or concerns. SENATOR M. MORADKHAN stated that tomorrow is the Student Development College Scholarship Banquet and wished everyone a great spring break. SENATOR BASTUNAS thanked everyone who supported Beta Theta Gamma's bake sale. She would like to have a softball practice. She is glad the Engineering Item passed. She also wished everyone a great spring break. SENATOR CANEPA stated that she is glad the Engineering Item passed. She also wished everyone a great spring break. SENATOR ANZALONE had no comment. SENATOR VENTURA stated that every time he checks his box there seems to be more and more fliers in there. He put up all of his REBELPALOOZA fliers and the next day there were more in there. He asked the other Senators to not put them in his box to get rid of them. He also stated that Assistant E&P Director Joe Lucchese is doing a great job. SENATOR KNAPP stated that he doesn't think PRESIDENT PRICE is vain and wished everyone a good spring break. SENATOR PAUL MORADKHAN stated that he saw professors laughing at the flunking fliers and reminded everyone that you can also audit classes. He also stated that one of the public safety phones by the sidewalk cafe has been broken for 2 months. SENATOR GREEN stated that the Item was great support for his college and wished everyone a good spring break. SENATOR WHITAKER stated that he is glad his Item passed. SENATOR AYON asked about the softball game and stated that he would like to play. He also stated that he will be watching the final four this weekend and wished everyone a good spring break. SENATOR CLEMENS stated that SENATOR CANEPA and Jen Peck spoke in one of his meetings and said some good things and had good ideas regarding the Directors. He thinks all Directors need Assistant Directors so that the next year they have somebody ready to step up and take over. 5 SENATE MINUTES 29-15/ March 22, 1999 SENATOR MORGAN wished everyone a good spring break. ( SENATOR BRONDER wished everyone a good spring break. SENATOR MAIETTA welcomed Alpha Xi Delta Sorority to campus. He commended DIRECTOR DELAFONTAINE on her hard work. He wished everyone a great spring break and stated that he is going to the Price is Right. SENATOR LAZAROFF stated that members of the Art Department contacted her and want CSUN to co-sponsor the art show again this year. They are having problems contacting each other so it will probably end up being a last minute Item. SENATOR AUGUSTIN stated that he can't stand softball. He will also be going to the Price is Right. In the Nevada section of the paper this weekend there was an article about the Rebel Yell and UNR. He just got back from Reno and thinks it is an interesting town. His arguments weren't that good but he commended the Rebel Yell for being at least polite in the way they did their editorials compared to UNR. SENATE PRESIDENT KIMBROUGH stated that Items for the next agenda need to be in by Friday at noon because of spring break. SENATOR FISK stated that he has also heard complaints regarding the flunking fliers. He hopes CSUN funds the art show again. Pictures should be up this week. He is no good at softball. He also wished SENATOR MAIETTA good luck on the Price is Right and everyone a happy spring break. XI. ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn the meeting made by SENATOR FISK, seconded by SENATOR ANZALONE.
