    CITY OF HOPE Public Relations Dept. 626-4611 (Hank Brown) SPORTSMEN'S CLUB HONORS 11 ATHLETES OF YESTERYEAR The Sportsmen's Club for the City of Hope today announced the 11 athletic immortals who will be honored June 28, at the Sportsmen's World Awards Presentations banquet at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. The Sportsmen's World Awards are conferred, each year on athletes whose championship performances have stood the test of time, and whose exemplary personal conduct have made them outstanding inspirations for the youth of today to emulate. W.R. (Bill) Schroeder of the Helms Athletic Foundations, chairman of the National Selections Committee of leading sportswriters and sportscasters around the country, said, the honorees who will receive trophies at the presentations are: ROCKY MARCIANO ?╟÷ Uftdefeated heavyweight boxing champion of the world, who retired in 1956. Elected, to boxing's Hall of Fame in 1959. PETER De PAOLO -- First man to win the Indianapolis '500' auto race at an average speed of more than 100 miles per hour, in 1925. DR. SAMMY LEE ?╟÷ Olympic diving champion at London and Helsinki, one of the most popular U.S. ambassadors of good will and friend- ship. SAMMY BAUGH ?╟÷ The famed. "Slingin' Sammy" was an outstanding passer for the Washington Redskins NFL football team after gaining honors at Texas Christian University. BOB FELLER ?╟÷ The former Cleveland Indians pitching ace notched 3 no-hitters and 12 one-hit games in his 20-year career, and set numerous strikeout records with his blazing fastball. -more- Q-v o
