Freeman company PUBLIC RELATIONS 3/28 ?╟÷ Jack------- Housings during Atomic Test Period at Sands, April: At special emergency Resort Hotel meeting on Saturday, matter of housing government, A1C, FCDA, and press people during Atomic Test, April 19 - 26 period, was discussed, with following results: 1, All hotels agreed to take care of as many VIP people as are actually needed, and list is to be furnished by Stu Campbell* Housing Coordinator for FCDA, 2, Actual number of rooms to be committed was not made specific by various hotels, although numbers averaged about 45 to 60 per hotel. Hotels stated they would take care of more VIPs if necessary, 3, Riviera and Royal Nevada will be open and will ease load on others. 4, Hotels to use own judgment in regretting rooms, and upon regretting a request are to send copy of the regret letter to Stu Campbell, at Joint Test Housing Committee, Box 1832, Postoffice, Las Vegas, so that a special committee set up of motel officials and Chamber of Commerce people can try to find room for observers. In regret letter, notice is to be made of this action, and attached suggested regret letter is recommended for use by Sands. 5. It is necessary to reserve rooms for some of the officials and press for the weekend before the test. Each hotel is faced with this problem and all have agreed to cooperate with government, 6. It was recommaded that press be housed in motel altogether, but Desert Inn and Sands recommended turndown of this suggest&do, and group followed suit. 7. Quite a few of the hotels already have their AEC and FCDA people in rooms from now until the test. We have had the Assistant Director of FCDA here for 10 days, but have not had to commit other rooms until the test period, 8. Talk was discussed about hotels committing one-third of their rooms for thAA period, but we did not commit this quota, 9. I am trying to use our quota up on press, governors, and Congressmen, We also have the Director of the entire operation staying here, Governor Val Peterson, and should realize some goodwill and publicity thru the meetings and announcements that will be made from here. 10.
