SAN PEDRO, LOS ANGELES AND SALT LAKE RAILROAD COMPANY R. E. W E L L S GENERAL MANAGER, C . J . B A L C H . LOS ANGELES. CALIFORNIA. February 23, 1912. Mr. W. H. Bancroft, Mr. J. Ross Clark, Special Committee. Dear Sirs: Replying to Mr. Clark's letter of February 16th, I quote Mr. Cullen's of the 21st in regard to protection of springs at Las Vegas: "Returning Mr. Clark's letter, the voucher to which Mr. Clark refers covers use of a saddle horse and one man during the month of January, and voucher should have so stated. I am of the opinion that it is to the company's interest to con-tinue to patrol the pipe line. This, to my mind, is one of the most important of our facilities and one which must, in order to enable us to operate at all, be carefully guarded. If anything happens to this pipe line we will be tied up, not being able to supply water for the shops, for engines, the station or the town". I agree with Mr. Cullen that, under present conditions, we should not abandon the protection of the springs and pipe line. Yours truly,
