CLOWN BAND CONSTRUCTION: To be built of metal armatures wrfh bearings at every moving point. Bodies formed of durable Scott Foam with rubberized seams. Provisions to be made for access to every point of maintenance. Heads of latex or neoprene. ANIMATION: For varied and realistic movement, all controls shalI * be proportional (excepting for a few small gag effects). "Proportional" means that the same movement need not occur the same way twice. Broad or subtle movements may be achieved from the same animation. Proportional control may be achieved through hydraulic cylinders or servo motors. Air cylinders do not achieve the same sophistication of moves. They are satisfactory for Amusement Park Dark Ride situations where a scene is'viewed for 20 seconds or less, but will not sustain for a realistic performance lasting over a minute. Disney tends toward broadest utiIization of hydraulic animation, since hydraulics are superior to servos in overcoming torque and inertia loads. However, the ever present danger of hydraulics is a leak in the line that can ruin drapes, costumes, and all else. In your situation, we recommend servos. We overcome its limited torque situation by carefully counterbalancing each moving part. Servos are easy to maintain and replace, and we shall include one back-up of each type of motor or other motive device utilized. Further, our accompanying maintenance manual will include direct sources on all equipment.
