Eighth St. Los Angeles, Calif. 90014 (213) 626-4611 (Hank Brown) LOS ANGELES -- Art Linkletter - TV personality, host, raconteur and author will be Master of Ceremonies for the third annual Sportsmen?╟╓s World Awards event at the Sands Hotel, Las Vegas, June 28. Twelve all-time athletic "greats" of the past will receive the coveted ?╟╓Victor' statuette in tribute to their exemplary conduct as champions on and off the fields of athletic competition. The Sportsmen's World Awards are sponsored by the Sportsmen Club for the City of Hope with proceeds going to support that free and nonsectarian medical and research center in its battle against catastrophic disease. Linkletter, who MC'd last year?╟╓s presentations, is one of radio and television's most popular and durable hosts. Best known for his chores on "House Party" and the long-running "People Are Funny," he is the author of the best-selling Kids Say the Darndest Things and, more recently, Linkletter Down Under, based on his experiences in Australia. The Sportsmen's World Awards show will be syndicated for national television by Metromedia Producers Corp. The honorees and other distinguished guests are being flown to Las Vegas by Trans World Airlines, official carrier for the Sportsmen's World Awards.
