Los Angeles, October 35th, 1823 Mr* A. S. Halsted: Referring to George H, Smith's letter of October 32nd, file 1035-S, in regard to contract covering water supply at Fillmore : I do not understand his reference to letter from Mr. Maguire. Did you send him a letter from Mr. Maguire with yours of October 19th? If he refers to my letter of October 18th to you, the contract should be written in accordance therewith, as it is the result of our negotiations with the City authorities and confirms the understanding had with them.
