January 8, 2000
The next event is the Nevada Reading Week Activities during the week of February 28th - March 3rd.
Sorors are to see Soror Irma Brooks for specific days to volunteer to read. Please identify the day date and time you will be availabe so that we may have a schedule ready to present at the February meeting.
During this week the students will participate in a Read-A-Thon.
Prizes have been donated by Soror Shirley Carroll. Thank you Soror Shirley.

Arts and Humanities Committee Report
February 12, 2000
We have already scheduled to participate in the Nevada Reading Week (Feb. 28th - March 3rd) activities. - Sorors will need to volunteer to read to students. Sorors who wish to volunteer to read are to see Soror Irma at the end of the meeting. Soror has a tentative schedule of volunteers. Please see Soror Irma for your schedule. We thank you very much for your participation.
We are also sponsoring a Read-A-Thon w/ prizes for the 3rd quarter during NV Reading Week - February 28th -March 3rd. Soror Shirley Carroll has grant money, which may be used to supply books as prizes for the students who participate. Students will log hours and have a parent or teacher sign off on the hours logged. Hours are collected at the end of the week. Prizes will be awarded to the top readers.
Again, Sorors will need to volunteer to read to students. Sorors who wish to volunteer to read are to see Soror Irma at the end of the meeting. We still have open time slots.
The next Arts and Humanities committee meeting will be held Monday, March 6, 2000, at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Soror Kaweeda.

Arts and Humanities Report
March 4, 2000
On February 4, 2000 Nancy Hutchenson, a story teller form the West Las Vegas Library, shared stories with the 3rd grade students at H.P. Fitzgerald ES. She was well received and the students enjoyed the activity.
On April 11, 2000, Hattie Cousain is scheduled to perform at H. P. Fitzgerald ES. She is an African-American storyteller who will share stories from when she was little..growing up in rural southern Louisiana. The cost for her performance is $50.00.
In May of this year, the Arts and Humanities Committee would like to present Kim Russell, an African-American Dramatist who will perform at H. P. Fitzgerald. Her performance will cost $100.00.
The next Arts and Humanities Committee’s next meeting is on Monday, March 6, 2000, at 7pm at the home of Soror Kaweeda Adams.
I move that my report be accepted as read with the sorority allocating $150.00 for the performances scheduled at H. P. Fitzgerald ES during April and May.

Founders’ Day Committee Report
March 4, 2000
Thank you to all sorority members for their support in this year’s Founders' Day. It was truly a pleasure. I extend thank yous to the committee members for all their hard work, as it was truly a team effort. I have enjoyed working with this committee.
Sorors, if you have outstanding money, please see Soror Barbara Kirkland so that we may complete our reconciliation. A final financial/recommendation report will be submitted at the next general meeting in April. Please complete the Founders’ Day 2000-survey sheet and return it to me at the end of the meeting.
The next Founders’ Day Committee meeting will be held on Monday, March 20, 2000 at 7 p.m. at the home of Soror Kaweeda. Committee members are asked to have all receipts and requests for vouchers ready on March 20th so that we may the reconciliation process.

April 1, 2000
The Arts and Humanities Committee met at the home of Soror Kaweeda Adamson Monday, March 6, 2000 at 7 p.m. the committee discussed standing/upcoming events for April.
April 11th at 9:30 a.m., Hattie Cousain will perform at Fitzgerald ES May 11th at 9:30 a.m., Kim Russell will perform at Fitzgerald ES

Long-range plans: The committee has decided to take this year to plan and develop the Humanities camp for April 2001. The camp will focus on multicultural education in the social studies and using art history and literature in order t develop and enhance writing skills. The committee will write a grant through the Nevada Humanities Committee in support of this humanities camp. The camp will be held at Fitzgerald ES.
Short-range plans: The Arts and Humanities would like to work with the Ways and Means Committee and begin planning an annual Art Expo that features jazz music and local artist. This annual art expo would hopefully serve as a second fundraiser in the Fall of the year.
The committee will work to organize and put together a proposal for a second fundraiser in conjunction with the Ways and Means Committee.

June 3, 2000
The May executive committee was cancelled. The next executive committee mtg. ^scheduled for July 19, 2000. We need someone to host the meeting. —•
AKA and Omega Psi Phi co-sponsored the annual scholarship reception on May 20, 2000 3pm at the North Las Vegas Library.
The AKA Juneteenth Celebration is scheduled for June 17, 2000.
Boule is July 7, 2000 - July 14, 2000.
Reminder the next general meeting is September 9, 2000.
The program committee will hold a meeting on Wednesday/ June X, 2000, at 7p.m. at the home of Soror Kaweeda G. Adams. Please all committee chairs please come prepared with a list of your upcoming events so that we may review the activities that may have changed in the upcoming months. I will provide maps to all committee chairs.

Arts and Humanities End of the Year Report

This year has been an exciting year as the arts and humanities committee has really gotten underway. The following information is a summary of the events for the year 2000.
February 4, 2000: Nancy Hutchenson, storyteller from West Las Vegas Library, shared stories with the third grade class at H. P. Fitzgerald ES.
