With the permission of the Post Commander, and no one else, they built thier own radip station and produced thier own broadcasts. ?╟≤ ?╟≤ with one unusual feature program. Once a week - for on# solid hour - which came to be known as the Texas hour - the men in Cold Bay were persuaded to enjoys?) the songs, jokes and bragging tall tales . . . all about Texas, It became Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that when the Texas Hour went on the air the Texas flag would be raised to the top of the flag pole and Texas would reign supreme for 60 full minutes. Beeua^A of the lack of regular mainland communication the men couldn't get records for thier station until the fame of the Texas Hour spread and finally eame to the attention of the Governor of Texas. Prom the moment the Governor sent the boys a batch of records they were flooded with material for the station, books, magazines, letters, gifts, etc., which made all of the snow-bound men just a slightly more tolerant of thier Texas Hour and the Texas sponsors. Of course none of the other lj.7 states were offered ( permitted ) to have that honor. Oh by the way, the name of the Post Commander was, Capt. Leon Green, a Texan.
