September 20, 196?Θ╝ Mr. Andy Luther U.S. Playing Card Co. Cincinnati, Ohio Soar Andys A1 Freeman asked me to get in touch with you about the number of decks of Congress cards you plan to supply for the rubber bridge tournament at the Sands October 9-13. lie have no way of estimating the attendance since this is the first time we have run the tournament. X imagine it cannot run below 106 pairs (50 tables) and that it is unlikely to run above 200 pairs. This is a big spread ?╟≤ During the first two days, each pair will play 6 short matches (8 hands per match), and X suppose that it would be pleasant to use fresh cards for every alternate match. Xt would not be difficult to use the cards for three matches instead of just two. If we estimate 75 tables and use three doubledecks per table per day, we get to 75 dozen decks for the first two days. We would use fewer during the knockouts (third and fourth days) since the number of players would decrease ?╟÷ so estimate 50 dozen decks for the third and fourth days. The total would be about 125 dozen ?╟÷ or just slightly over 10 gross. Is this out of line with what you had planned t I'd appreciate a line from you to say whether my estimate is roughly what you had expected ?╟÷ or not. X enclose a copy of West Magazine, the new supplement published on Sundays by the Los Angeles Times. You remember the reporter who spoke to you during the gin rummy tournament, and you will be pleased to read his arti dc in this issue of West. Our old friend Albert Morehead is given only a few months to live after an exploratory operation which revealed cancer. Be knows, being a courageous man. Be is at Barkness Pavilion, Presbyterian Hospital, Hew York for a few days, but will go heme soon (446 Bast 52nd Street, BY 22). Best eegards. Will we see you at the Sands next month ? Sincerely, Alfred Sheinwold
