JUST ONE WORD DESCRIBES CA C'EST PARIS'-WOW! By ROY RlNStR What is 'now Frank Sennes' Moulin Rouge theater-restaurant in Hollywood was built original-Earl Carroll as a - show-for ?╟úThe Most Beautiful | Girls in the World/' But that great 'showman, in t his plushiest days, never came up with a musical revue to I match Sennes?╟╓ new $200,000 spectacular, ?╟úCa C'est Paris.?╟Ñ A CAST of 113 frolics through 20 scenes which have had no equal here for sheer sumptuousness, Madam Berthe's ingenious costuming and sprightly new music and lyrics by Pony Sherrell and Phil Moody are major points in favor of ?╟úCa Cest Paris,?╟Ñ but the lion's share of the applause must go to Pro-|| ducer-director Donn Arden. Against scenic designer Harvey Warren's mammoth sets, At* den cues his cast* with a faultless eye for maximum theatrical effect. His huge corps of-danc-t ers and singers (50 in the chorus 1 line alone) could easily intimi-!date a less doughty director than Arden. that Arden's work was all cut Ijigl| - most spectacular in production numbers on the giant revolving stage in which more than 100 performers appear simultaneously. The girls are lovely, the*** sets breath-taking and the danc-1 ers and singers in bravura form. j The show features a number ] of sttong individual acts, the best of which are Les Charliv- j els, acrobats; Miss Malta and j her dogs, the smartest pooches | you've ever seen; comics Frank ] Libuse and Margot Bf ander (their stint is a trifle too long); trapese artist Mme. Ardelty and dancers Giselle and Francois Szony. THE DOUBLED ATERS, A song and dance quartet; singers Eileen Christy and Jerry La-Zarre, and dancers Fluff Charh ton and Luis Urbina also score, This revue and Sennes' low-cost package policy for dinner and dancing add up to a wonderful entertainment buy. ) On opening night, liber ace, j sitting at a ririgsidetable, had a pptted palm and a trayful of dishes thrown at him by comedian Libuse. Liberaca probably woh't hold still for this more thanv pnce, but oven in his absence ^you'll have an exciting evening at the Moulin Rouge. F THE GREATEST . risk in a revue of such extravagance is that the performers will become lost in the visual elements of costuming and scenery, but Arden preserves a deft balance that achieves both pace and proportion. . Add to his troupe of 113 a large orchestra (competently led by Bob Snyder), 20 stagehands, 20 dogs, two monkeys, a chimpanzee, 50 pigeons, .four macaws, four parrots, 50 parakeets and two baby elephants, and you will have to concede j The FUN is Greater than ever!
