Each year on Boxing Day and New Year's, the tradition of the "Junkanoo" is reenacted with all the excitement of Mardi Gras. Legend has is that a proud African chief, named John Canoe, was brought to the Carribean in slavery. At Christmas time, when his overlords were preoccupied with festivities, he and his entourage decorated themselves and put on a grand parade. As it was in the 1850fs and still is today, here is the rhythm and movement of the Junkanoo.
