Page 2 WHEEL OF ROTARY DECEMBER 16, 195U TODAY: Members of the Rotary Club salute the best High School Football Team in Nevada today as the letter winners of the Las Vegas High School Wildcat Grid Squad, and their coaches are feted at luncheon. The Wildcats, possessors of the State Triple A title for their second successive year, wound up their 195U season Thanksgiving Day with an eight win, three loss standing which included victories over such power-houses as Compton, Pasadena and Van Nuys, California, and, of course, the traditional inter-State rival, the Reno High School Huskies. Featured speaker for the day is Braven Dyer, one of the most widely read sports writer on the Pacific coast and a veteran member of the Los Angeles Times staff. Dyer has fol-lowed the fortunes of the major Pacif-ic Coast grid teams and -is versed in the intricacies of the sport from goal post to training quarters.... Dyer re-turned recently from the mid-west and east where he "covered" the USC-NOTRE DAME contest and participated in sev-eral awards dinners honoring the top college players of the past season. Dyer is to recount some of his experi-ences in writing sports and to bring a message to the young gridders. In addition to the team members, other guests of the club are Head Coach Angelo (Weepy) Collis and his assistants, Jack Lee, Dick Truman and Buzz Jackson; Athletic Director Pat Diskin, Head Basketball Coach Harry Paille and Principal Walter V. Long. Program Chairman is Ray Germain. NEXT WEEK Our annual Christmas party is slated next Thursday noon when club members entertain their Rotaryanns and participate in the program ob-serving the Yuletime season.... The program, according to Chairman Allen Bunker, will include the Christmas Message by the Rev. Walt Hanne; Christmas Songs by the High School choral group under the direction of Mrs. Marjorie Dickinson, and the tra-ditional presenting of gifts to the Rotaryanns As a special feature of the program, a turkey drawing will be conducted at 2$$ per ticket. The 25 pound Tom turkey will be donated to the club by Jack Wollenzien xri.th the cash proceeds of the drawing to be turned over to the Salvation Army for Christmas relief. Members are warned that the turkey award will be in addition to the regular cash draw-ing in which the winning number will be held by the Rotaryann of the mem-ber In a reminder, President George advises members to tell their Rotaryanns now of the party. LAST WEEK The increased activity of the University of Nevada in developing agriculture in Nevada was explained to club members last Thursday in a highly interesting talk by the new dean of the College of Agriculture, Dr. John Bertrand Dr. Bertrand, a humorous young executive, listed many programs which his department ^ i n g o u t in the State, in- y, in C^aSc/ 3 sr~ WHEEL County. He stressed particularly the research Ttfork that is planned and promised that Nevada farmers and ran-chers will enjoy many benefits from the series of experiments under way or contemplated. Mrs. Mil-ton Henderson, daughter of A1 and Ruth Cahlan, is the mother of a new son, born in Iowa, while the Jim Cashmans greeted a son born to their daughter, Tona Margison President George reports that since John Beville and Jim Costello were absent last week, they will be asked to give their Magazine reports today. He says they'd better be good. District 160-C was increased by two new clubs December 10th, when charter presentations were made to officers of clubs at Rosemead and Five Points, California. Doing the honors for the district and interna-tional was H. T. (Mick) Michler, dis-trict governor The planned trip last week by club members to Tonopah was cancelled because of inclement weather.
