The ?╟úWho's Who" Man It was never our privilege to meet Albert Nelson Marquis, but to us and to countless other newspaper workers his death in Evans- ton, 111., at the age of 88, means the loss of a good and helpful friend. He founded ?╟úWho?╟╓s Who in America?╟Ñ, and was its edi- tor for 41 years. A seeker after essential facts concerning the careers of notable Americans, from Olaf Sverre Aamodt, Agricultural Department agronomist, to Vladimir Kosma Zworykin, director of the RCA research laboratories in New Jersey, can turn confidently to ?╟úWho?╟╓s Who?╟Ñ. Nobody ever bought or bullied his way into the book, although many tried. Mr. Mar- quis established rigid standards for admis- sion, based on ?╟útalented and meritorious achievement,?╟Ñ and never deviated from them. He left ?╟úWho?╟╓s Who?╟Ñ in able hands, and the familiar red-bound volumes will preserve his memory long after his own biographical sketch has been transferred to the companion publication, ?╟úWho Was Who in America.?╟Ñ Here reproduced under permission as published In The New York World-Telegram, this editorial also appeared In The News of Washington and other Scrlpps-Howard Newspapers. It was written by Mr. Edward A. Evans.
