?֪ irror BIOGRAPHY 1 fas'* DIVISION OF VjT LONDON RECORDS, INC. LONDON RECORDS, INC. 539 WEST 25TH STREET, NEW YORK, N. Y. '00^NGELBERT "What's in a name?" wrote William Shakespeare. He obviously hadn't heard of Engelbert Humperdinck! But how could he have, Engelbert is essentially a product of the Twentieth Century, with voice to match! ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK was born May 1940 in India where he spent his first six years. His parents then decided to return to England, making a home for themselves and their ten children, in Leicester. It soon became evident that ENGELBERT was to be the musical member of the family and throughout his childhood he sang and played a variety of instruments. On leaving school he became an apprentice but this vocation was rather short-lived as the urge to make music his life, proved too strong. Armed with little money, which he won in a talent show, Engelbert set off for London to begin a showbusiness career in earnest. Unfortunately, things did not pan out quite as he had hoped - the going was tough, the streets weren't 'paved with gold' and without that all-important hit record, Engelbert found himself, over the years, beginning to lose heart. Then came a change of luck. Engelbert sang a song he had written, to his friend Gordon Mills, Tom Jones' manager. Gordon loved the number and immediately arranged for Engelbert to record it -. it was recorded and recorded well, result: ( cont'd.)
