36 LAS VEGAS SUN Thursday, Mar. 3, 1966 New 'Hello America' Greeted at the Dl The Desert Ian?╟╓s all-new sec- ond spectacular ?╟úHello Amer- ica,?╟Ñ premiered in Use hotel?╟╓s Crystal Room Tuesday night. The Desert Inn greets 6t> years of Americana (188d-?╟ to 1840) with breathtaking production numbers, sweeping dance tines, stirring songs and excit- ing specialty acts. . Under the guiding hands of Produces Frank Sennes and Director Dann Arden the thrills, pageantry and drama that touched the lives of three gen- erations of Americans appear revitalized in this lavishly staged and brilliantly costumed n cal extravaganza. The show?╟╓s nostalgic and opu- lent opening production number sets the mood for ?╟úHello Amer- ica?╟╓s?╟Ñ heartwarming theme of yesteryear. It?╟╓s the remarkable onstage re-creation of a Missis- sippi riverboat as it wends its way from St. Louis to New Orleans. The mythical trip affords the audience a close-up view of riv- erboat night club life of that bygone era and the lilting,' foe-, tapping music that it- inspired and nourished. All the legendary figures who helped make river- boat life so storybook colorful are represented . . . including gamblers, dancers, southern belles and the nostalgic, banjo-1 strumming, g a y 1 y costumed musicians. Another romantic page- from! America?╟╓s past- dramatically combs to life again with ?╟úHello America?╟╓s?╟Ñ portrait of the Old West. Here Hollywood stunt men offer- flashbacks of .such tradi- tional movie scenes as realisti- cally:' staged barroom brawls, bank robberies mid jail breaks. The earthy, Western-style action sure to strike a responsive chord with every Western movie buff. One of the show?╟╓s most poig- nant moments comes when the scene shifts from' movie stunt- men of today to a delineation of the golden age of the cinema when the .true titans of the sil- ver screen reigned supreme. Featured are tributes to Charlie Chaplin, Marie Dressier, Wal- lace Beery, Shirley Temple, Ed- die Cantor, Ruby Keeler, Clara Bow,; Jeanette McDonald, Nel- son Eddy and Greta Garbo. Sports heroes of the golden age of athletics get their innings in another production number. Babe Ruth, Red Grange, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Route Rockne and Babe Didricksen Zaharies are honored with sta- tues riding parade floats on New York?╟╓s Fifth Avenue. Sennes and Arden have be- come internationally famed, for their spectacular onstage trag- edies. They reach new horizons of greatness with their unique and costly- stage innovations in the. new ?╟úHello America?╟Ñ show. One of these scenes is the stark- ly realistic re-enactment of an historic event no theatrical en- trepreneur has ever attempted on a stage before?╟÷the awesome disaster that befell Germany?╟╓s silvery Graf Zeppelin, the Hin- denburg, in 1937. The world?╟╓s largest dirigible became ,a flaming week after being ripped apart by an explosion as it was nearing the Naval landing field at Lakehurst, N.J. While the audience is still' gasping over this spectacle, an- other startling stage effects feat razzle-dazzles them and com- pounds their excitement. For the zeppelin disaster is dramati- cally followed by an authentic* reproduction of Niagara Falls in which hundreds of gallons 'of real water cascade onto' the 14 angriest tpmesf Part V?╟÷WED., MAR. 9,1966 ?╟ HELLO AMERICA?╟╓ ?╟÷ The Staneks, of circus fame, one of the sparkling spe- cialty acts featured in the all-new second spectacular, ?╟ Hello America,?╟╓ at the Desert Inn?╟╓s Crystal Room.
