Johnson, ____________ Secretary________ Gentlemen: Your letter of October 31, addressed to State of California, Department of Agriculture, has /. been referred to this Division for reply. We agree with you that the per capita use of 700 gallons of water per day in the City of Las Vegas during hot weather periods is high. In our experience the most effective means of controlling excessive use of water is through metered service with appropriate rates. We do not have information covering the effect on vegetation of irrigation during extreme high temperatures, but suggest that the University of California Agricultural Experiment Station at Berkeley may have literature on the subject that would be helpful.
