CALL TO ORDER SENATE PRESIDENT SMITH called the meeting to order at 6:32p.m. H. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 25-17 & 25-18 Out of order, not in Senate boxes in time for approval. IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT PIDA - had a meeting about the audit decisions that were made and what the Executive Board will recommend to help things run as smoothly as possible; also attended interviews of the candidates for the Athletic Director. STUDENT BODY VICE PRESIDENT MILLS - has had a lot of people coming into the office with questions about the new residency requirements, he called and found out that the new requirements go into effect on July first. SENATE PRESIDENT SMITH - spent most of his day at the interviews of candidates for the Athletic Director position. BOARD & COMMITTEE REPORTS A. SENATE COMMITTEE REPORTS . . .. a. Bylaws, CHAIR MCLAIN - the Bylaws committee will be meeting on Friday at 12:00noon because the bill was not posted with the agenda at the last meeting. b. Campus Safety & Awareness, CHAIR FLEISCHMAN - would like the committee to meet over the summer, so she will need her committee members schedules. B. BUSINESS MANAGEMENT REPORTS - none C. FACULTY SENATE COMMITTEE REPORTS a. Admissions, SENATOR SCHWARTZ - the committee met last week and made decisions on admissions and credit transfers. b. Curriculum, SENATOR MOORE - the committee wont be meeting again until the Fall. VL PUBLIC COMMENT [In accordance with N.R.S. 241.020 (2)(c)(3)]. James Embree, Editor of the Rebel Yell would like to express his position on Unfinished Business item A when it is brought up for discussion. VIL UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Approval of Zenzee Rios as Associate Chief Justice (tabled at Senate Meeting 25-17); Motion to remove from the table made by SENATOR MOORE, seconded by SENATOR SCHWARTZ. SENATOR MOORE stated that he spoke with Ms. Rios and that she was never told that she needed to be at any of the Senate Meetings, but she also told him that she would be at the meeting tonight. Motion made by SENATOR LAXAGUE to return the item to the table, seconded by SENATOR MOORE. Move into a vote. Motion passes 13-0-0. B. Approval of a monthly stipend of $1,000.00 and a 48 credit fee waiver for the 1995-96 Student Body President, John Pida, to be encumbered from the 2702 (Gen) account (tabled at Senate Meeting 25-18); Motion to approve made by SENATOR SCHWARTZ, seconded by SENATOR ZUREK. SENATOR FLEISCHMAN stated that she believes it should be amended down. SENATOR RIVERA stated that he believes that it is tacky for the Executive Board to give themselves a raise when they have just started their jobs. MR. JAMES EMBREE stated that they are giving themselves a bigger raise than anyone in the real world would get. Motion to amend items B,C, & D to 42 credits made by SENATOR CARROLL, seconded by SENATOR MOORE. Move into a vote. Motion passes 13-0-0.
