Principi Secretary of Veterans Affairs Department of Veterans Affairs 810 Vermont Avenue NW Washington, D.C. 20420-0001 Dear Secretary Principi, We would like to thank you for your continued commitment to build an adequately sized ambulatory care clinic for the veterans in Las Vegas. We want to assure you that we are pursuing every avenue to assist the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in fulfilling its promise to build a new facility with services available to Las Vegas veterans by 2006. In order to answer questions from veteran constituents, community leaders, and other Members of Congress, we respectfully request the VA provide specific details regarding the construction of the clinic and the data used to determine the size of the clinic and scope of services that will be provided to southern Nevada veterans. Specifically, because of the exponential growth in southern Nevada, we want to be sure the data being used to determine the size of the proposed clinic is the most current and will adequately serve our veterans population. We would also request that the VA provide our offices with a cost estimate and justification in the same form as "Major Construction Project Descriptions" set out in the Department of Veterans Affairs FY 2004 Budget Submission (Vol. 2 Medical Programs). Specifically, we would like the VA to include a description of the project, priorities/deficiencies addressed, strategic goals and objectives, alternatives to construction considered, affiliations/sharing agreements, demographic data, schedules, project cost summaries, and operating cost. The staff at the VA has been most helpful in working to solve this dilemma in Las Vegas, and we appreciate your personal attention to this important matter. Thank you again, Mr. Secretary, for your commitment to improving the services for the veterans in Las Vegas. Through our continued efforts we will solve this matter on behalf of southern Nevada veterans.
